Are these dinos?

This is the first time since turning on this tank I have had measurable po4. Started testing every week then went to every other week, but have been running GFO since early on too.

I just added a maxspect gyre xf350 to the tank. Some of the strings have broken off and started floating.

As an fyi I have 2 clowns, 1 diamond goby, 1 blue damsel, 1 yellow wrasse, 1 sand sifting sea star, 1 red sea star with black tips, 9 snails and 1 bulb anemone. I have a few corals that are in a QT tank but none in the DT.

My wife just said the no3 is 0. I'm partially colorblind so have to rely on her. However I am heading to bed as it's late for me. I'll check up on it tomorrow.

So here are the results from the napkin test, I dont have coffee filters at my house so I used 2 folded napkins.

The first is just after straining and the second is an hour later.

Well done test. That's dinos.

Thanks taricha I appreciate it. I am doing a 3 day blackout right now to try and rid them and going to start dosing phosphorous and nitrate to get above 0. Ran a po4 test last night and still at 0 but not sure what to dose. I was thinking flourish by seachem but not 100%.

I believe that even though you've upgraded from a 45 to the current 90, the tank should be considered new and allowed to mature.

So just let it ride itself out Dom? I dont want the dinos to get out of control is all.

@Dom and @taricha do you think I should start dosing? I ran another PO4 test tonight and still not getting any phosphates even with overfeeding. I'm also not even washing my frozen foods to try and get a little bit in there. Turning the lights back on tomorrow after 3 days and while they are diminished I expect them to return if I dont fix the issue.

Keep on top of it via manual removal. As time goes on, you will probably find that your cleaning less and less.

Ho

How long have you been overfeeding?

Just a few days. Maybe 4

I don't think 4 days of overfeeding is long enough to see NO3 and PO4 to come up.

If you run a protein skimmer, turn it off for a week and monitor.

I am breaking in a new one right now. As soon as that is done I'll turn it off. Thanks for the help everyone.
