I would go with the ocean revive also. Better than any of the Chinese box lights.

Op here is the thing lights are not something you don't want to be cheap on. In the long run it will cost you 2 times more money.

I checked out the sbreef lights. I like the photon v2 but it's outside my price range. I'm trying to get good lighting inexpensively but don't want "cheap" there is a difference.

I had an idea last night. What if I got the Mars or the Viparspectra and gutted the Marineland for the t5's? Would that work? This way, I could have a hybrid light and not waste $25 I spent on the Marineland.

If I get the Viparspectra, I could use the built in timer and have the t5 on a timer as well.

If I get the Mars I could have each light (blue) (white) on individual timers and have the t5 on timer as well.

I'm thinking this would cover any spectrum I could ever need for any coral I want.

Your thoughts?

The mars is more than enough but yea you can do a hybrid as well. I was also unsure with t5, ocean revives or a hybrid.

Not a fan of a s lot of shimmer that's why I did not go with any of the top end lights. It was not the money it was just a personal taste. A lot of people also make a canopy and build a hybrid with t5/led to get that extra pop so not a bad idea. Just be aware that t5 you will need to replace the bulbs every like 9months so it's going to be an extra expense. Post pics when you do the hybrid light, I am sure many people would want to see it.

Besides that extra pop in color for "my" eyes, what's the advantages of using t5 for the corals? Are there any advantages for the tank and corals?

I would see if you can remove the MH bulbs from the unit you bought for $25 and replace them with cheap LEDs. Put nice bulbs in the T5s (ATI Blue+, ATI Coral+) + LED and you would have yourself a quite nice light. T5 make SPS so much easier. If you are new to SPS, LEDs can be a bit tricky to dial in. If you convert that fixture to a T5 + LED fixture, you can get the main light from your T5s and use the LEDs as a supplement. The LEDs also give you the opportunity to run only actinics for a while, to give a longer viewing window.

You could check out nanoboxreef (Dave Fason) for getting some inexpensive LEDs to retrofit into those MH spots. He is really easy to work with.

I think I can get the t5 lights out but the MH... I don't know. That light fixture is kinda hard to work with.

I don't think the space for the MH is enough to retrofit led's and have the coverage I would need.

It's a great idea though. Just don't know that it would work.

Personally I think if you get the viraspectra you won't need the t5s. But it's your choice.

If you want the most pop, led's are probably the way you want to go

I don't know why I did not think of this before.
I already have the current usa marine led lights that ramp up and down plus the Fluval sea led lights.

What if I just keep my existing light set up and simply add the Marineland to the mix?
All the t5 work on the Marineland so I would be simply be adding four t5's to the tank.

Would this work?

Both the Fluval sea led and the Current usa marine orbit led lights have braces to rest on the tank.
The Marineland has legs that rest on the tank as well.

The space where the MH are on the Marineland is in the middle between the T5's.

The Fluval and Current usa orbit fit exactly under the MH taking nothing away from the T5's.

I can mount the Marineland on the tank and mount the Fluval and the current usa right underneath directly on the leg rest of the Marineland.

Easy, neat, no hanging of lights clean looking install.

If this will work, all I would have to do is get new t5 bulbs and be in businesses.

I have high hopes for this lighting system.
I will replace existing bulbs with 2x ATI T5 HO blue plus and 2x ATI T5 HO coral plus.
Total is 54w X4.

Please let me know if this will work for coral growth and health.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt, just trying to get it right without going bankrupt.

I'm trying to get clarity on this before I order the bulbs.

If this will work, I will order ATI bulbs but I don't want a super blue only display. I'm hoping my choice of blue plus with coral plus will hit the right color for me and spectrum for corals.

Please advise.

If you want great health & growth. Put an ATI True Actinic in the mix. It has been beast for mine. Not a fan of the muddy purple line, but you said you wanted growth. Chlorophyll A & B peak out at 400nM-450nM. True Actinic is 430nM. Watch ATI T5 comparison part 1 from Than at Tiddle Gardens.
