Are you a fish or coral person?

Me personally, I build my systems around the fish. I enjoy watching and discovering the personalities of the fish. The colors and behaviors keep me watching for hours!

What do you want enjoy more the fish or corals we house?
I guess when forced to choose I'd call myself a coral person even though I love fish, just bc I'd never own a FOWLR but I'd be fine with a coral only tank. Nobody is forcing me to do that though ;Smuggrin

Fish!
I'm pretty sure our copperband is smarter than our neighbors dog.

Watching them interact is always fascinating. Even the small ones have their own personality.

Then soft corals and Frogspawn.
Basically anything with movement.

Anything that reminds me of being in the water and swaying back and forth just beyond the waves.

I’d say Fish! My Sohal follows me like it’s a dog!

I have a 210 gallon predator tank tank. I have a porcupine puffer, lionfish, angler, eel, etc. I love watching those guys hunt grass shrimp.

I also like corals, so I have a 32 gallon reef tank with small fish, clowns, gobies, dottyback, etc that would be a meal on the predator tank

Fish first, I enjoy coral but less expensive coral is fine with me. The beauty of angels, tangs, an wrasse is something to marvel.

I see many reef tanks I admire nearly as much but I don’t feel like dosing and testing and automating and if I get lazy and move in to my car hobby more my fish aren’t likely to die out from negligence very quickly. Coral is a different story.

I have always characterized myself as a fish first reefer. Cannot be a reefer without keeping corals though; then it’s a FOWLR.

Fish for me. I love feeding them. Love to watch them swimming. I like corals. They make a nice colorful background for my fish. And tasty snacks. And I make them. My clowns have been with me for 7 plus years.

This is so tough... I love them both so much. When my fish are making eye contact with me and being all wiggly for me they are my favorite. Then when my corals extend their polyps and throw out their sweepers they are my favorite. Vicious cycle I guess .

I feel like I learn more and am challenged more by the corals so at the end of the day that's probably where my heart is.

Coral. I love fish but they are a PTA. Quarantine, aggression, waste, disease. If they weren't important to keeping coral healthy I might not bother.

My list would be
  1. Invertebrates (including anemones)
  2. Coral
  3. Fish

I have had some great freshwater and marine fishies over the years, but I definitely returned to reefing for invertebrates and coral.

I love it all equally. I love watching the different fish, the different shrimps doing their thing, and the corals with there beautiful color. I love looking at everything interacting together as a whole. Not one piece prevails over the other, for me, you need the the whole reef. When everything is interacting together it allows you to see each for the unique creature they are.
