My tank is in my basement, so no. I do keep an eye out for that tell tale sign myself though. In recent years there’s a lot more RGB LEDs that can fool you though.

I was asked and even accused of growing pot in my house before.

Our tank is at the back of the house - so no glow through the front windows or door. But at night we have skylights in our living room that do illuminate blue.

So the drone flyers, helicopter pilots, and private planes may have a question or 2 but they have yet to "Drop In" and ask.

I can relate.... my reef is located near the front of my home...in the evening there is a "blue" hue coming from the front window on the 1st floor. Im certain folks think im "growing" something..lol.

My front window would glow in the evenings... I was waiting for the day the cops would come knocking after a nosey HOA person made a comment.... Never did happen though!
That tank moved to a location further in the house ha!

Had the local po po at my house one time because someone thought I was growing. Grow lights are pink, not blue. LOL

The local guys were so impressed with my tank, I actually got one of them into the hobby from their visit.


You can see the blue glow through my front windows.

What brought this up is we have a local reefer who noticed his house was under surveillance by the same vehicle more than once and called the police Department. They came over and indicated there was suspicion from neighbors and got a call and were happy to realize it was an aquarium. One of the officers asked him if he could take a couple of pics of tank to show his wife

Best part was during covid and selling/trading corals. We would place an insulated container near the front of the house to do swaps. Neighbor were super suspicious with random people walking up ... putting money down and leaving with little baggies.

I can see the blues coming from my back windows when I come home. Can see them from the other street before I turn the corner.
No one really asks anything anymore, not with my little zoo.

My Reef room is sealed from the inside, stopping any outside light from coming in and any inside light from going out, 12hrs of light and 12hrs of complete darkness...just like any legitimate grow room should be so nope

Well I'd say they're a bit bigger than a dime but yeah, you'll definitely want to leave with a baggie.

No issue but you can see the tank through the window easy enough to answer that question. At least when the drapes are open.

I got a killer deal on Co2 from a local grow shop! They had some decent fuge lights too!
I thought it was funny, when they asked me, “what size is your grow?” And I had to explain that it’s for aquarium uses. It seemed like they rarely had customers growing actual food, mostly just weed lol

My old boss went to the local grow shop looking for advice,etc. for growing hydro lettuce....they gave him funny looks. I told him just go online to look for advice.
