I live on a harbor, and the tank is at the back of the house so you can see it across the harbor. This winter I met a guy who lives across the harbor, and the subject of my reef tank came up. He said “Oh! My wife was wondering why you guys watch TV all day.” So, reef tank, not TV. Does that make me a better person?

Our front windows are lit up blue. Im in a rural area and my neighbors and I don't speak so no one complains.

I get my coral from someone selling out of her garage, you have to make an appointment some days. I've seen cars lined up waiting there turn. Wondering what those neighbors think!

The neighbor actually selling weed next door is probably happy that she’s drawing the attention lol

My reef is in the basement so no blue lights seen by the public. But I did have a lot of buyer traffic back in 2020 and 2021. All I did was porch pickup so I had a lot of people picking up small cups for weeks. Only took paypal so it didn't look super bad. But my neighbors always joked with me about "dealing." :0)

Good question. When we built our new house my wife was very concerned over this. Her color scheme is all white and we live in a subdivision. So I got lights with minimal light spill. Programmed the time from 930-730 to minimize lights being on without sunlight, programmed a more light blue spectrum and used corrugated plastic to build an enclosure wall that can be stored behind tank. This is super useful for blocking light in and out for nighttime fish sleeping.
