Arthur's Red Sea Reefer 750 XXL Build Thread

Go with the Red Sea. I just got rid of my SCA for a RS peninsula 650. The quality is much better. SCA is not bad for the price but they lack quality. Think of it as a long term investment.
I’d love to get one. I might have to upgrade my lighting as I have a Pacific Sun T5 54w 8 bulb unit that’s 48” long. This was originally going to go on a 100 then I graduated to the 187. It’s coming down to cost and what can fit in the cabinet. I already have a Synergy reef sump that I want to use. They’re both decent tanks and the SCA would be drilled for a ghost overflow. Still thinking about it...

Edit: I’d really appreciate it if could you measure the inside of your cabinet ? I’d like to know what the inside dimensions of the sump compartment are as well as the chiller compartment dims. No hurry when you get time if you are able. Thank you so much.

Red Sea Peninsula 650 dimensions. Sump Compartment 41" wide x 23.5" deep x 35" high Chiller Compartment 19.5" wide x 23.5 deep x 35" high

Problem I had with the SCA was the glass was hazed due to etching after 2 years. This was from dosing 2part. Poor quality glass would be my guess. The silicone joints were not very clean and would peel off chunks at times. The Overflow was built out of glass but then covered with black acrylic which warped, cracked and came off several times. Between the acrylic and glass overflow there was a .5" gap between the pieces which would collect detritus and all kinds of debris. I had to drain the tank a couple times to fix the acrylic which came off a few times. The gap was too large thus the reason the silicone didn't seem to adhere no matter how much was used. Not to mentioned the sludge build up that had to be cleaned out in that gap. SCA puts slits in the bottom of the front acrylic panel so water can flow out but its not enough due to how much silicone is used to hold the piece of acrylic in place. The silicone seems to help trap in floating debris that doesn't make it past the gap into the overflow. Its almost like a pre overflow/surface skimmer that you can never clean unless you remove the acrylic.

Mesh Lid from @ArtFully Acrylic finally arrived! Looks really nice. Here are a few pictures:

Very nice. I’ll keep that in mind when I get my 750 in. I wonder if they can make that lid in 2 pieces so just half can be lifted at a time.

How's the Deltec doing?

I picked up a RO Elite 200 but its been a royal PITA so far... Thinking about getting a Deltec 1660

Gran proyecto, seguiré su progreso así cogere ideas para mi 800 litros. Saludos desde España.

I'm not sure I'm the best person to answer you question as Deltec is my first ever skimmer. With that said, here are my thoughts with the four months I've had it.
  • Any change to the water level in the sump affects the skimmer.
  • Adjusting the skimming is not something you can do within a few minutes. Adjust, wait 24 hours, adjust again.
  • I purchased it with the the manual self-cleaning head which it's nice as I clean the head while it's running.
  • The only noise that comes from my tank is the sound of the Deltec pump. VarioS-8 for my return Syncra Silent 4.0 for my chiller are absolutely silent.

Your radions are silent? Mine sound like a loud pc tower

If I can't get this RO skimmer dialed in I think i'll go Deltec

Based on your list of fish it appears that the Red Firefish Goby and Purple Firefish Goby did not turn out too well. Is the pair of Purple Firefish doing well? I am getting ready for my first fish purchase and I am debating between Red Firefish Goby and Purple Firefish Goby or one of each.

Red Firefish never made it out of QT. Jumped out. Two purple Firefish are doing well.

anything new to report, was trying to see how you mounted the fuge light but the pic isnt showing up anymore

Continuing to add more fish and corals.

Here is a picture of the Kessil with the mount. The biggest hardware change I've made is added an Arlo Pro 2 inside the sump and one facing the aquarium. Attached a picture.

Good Afternoon! Quick question for you on this build. How do you have the chiller pumped? Looks like both the inlet and the outlet go to you return section of your skimmer?
