I just got an ati 8 bulb 48inch power module i was wondering if some body can suggest any option for hanging it i cant make holes in the roof. I am looking into current hanging arm lighting assambley to mount behind my tank and hang it from it will that work. I have 120 gal. Any input will be apriciated

I built a stand for my t5 out of wood. It sits on tank itself and is 12inches off water. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll show you. Basic design I used two pieces of 2x2 wood 48 inches long for length, four pieces of 2x2 for top and bottom that match the dimension of width and four pieces 2x2 for the height I wanted it off the water. Used wood glue and wood screws and put it together. Still need to paint it black, but it looks and works great.

^^^ Very Cool!

Those lights have some serious weight to them, make sure to use the proper hardware when you do suspend it.

Thanks! I'll admit, I borrowed the idea.

Yeah, I was very careful when deciding how to support all the weight. Due to stud spacing and not wanting to empty and move my tank, I decided to go with long screws drilled into plastic anchors rated for 55lbs. to hold the wire to the dry wall up top.

On day number 1 my nosy cat had to jump on top of the fixture to test out the new perch, slipped into the water and never tried it again. Seeing that assured me that the anchors were strong enough. I didn't feel like whipping out my old high school physics book, but from what I remember and from what I could attempt in my head, I think the 45 degree bend in the wire lessens the strain on the top anchors compared to being pulled straight out...this could be wrong though... I know the wiring pulling straight down would provide the most strength from the anchor.

How much does your 8x54 watt fixture weight?
Have you decided how to hang it yet?
