Yeah, I was very careful when deciding how to support all the weight. Due to stud spacing and not wanting to empty and move my tank, I decided to go with long screws drilled into plastic anchors rated for 55lbs. to hold the wire to the dry wall up top.
On day number 1 my nosy cat had to jump on top of the fixture to test out the new perch, slipped into the water and never tried it again. Seeing that assured me that the anchors were strong enough. I didn't feel like whipping out my old high school physics book, but from what I remember and from what I could attempt in my head, I think the 45 degree bend in the wire lessens the strain on the top anchors compared to being pulled straight out...this could be wrong though... I know the wiring pulling straight down would provide the most strength from the anchor.
