Thanks man. It really does. You ran a BK SM250 on a comparable sized system says a lot. Comparison to that?
The BK was on a system I was running a few years ago. I bought it new. The system was about the same size as my current system with the PowerCone. The old system was stocked heavier. This PowerCone pulls more.
If I put a red and white cup on top of this PowerCone, I would think it's my old BK. Point being is that the PowerCone produces small bubbles like the BK. Best I can describe it is like a milk jug. Solid white. Very impressive. It was actually the first comment I made when I plugged it in. I was pleasantly surprised even tho the grid wheel the PowerCone has is what attracted me to it in the first place. You see no turbulence, just solid white. I've ran my share of skimmers over the yrs and these are the only two I've ran that have that effect.
What I do like better about the PowerCone is that you can control the pump speed by controller. On my Bubble King I had to stick my hand in the water and turn the volute to control the pump speed. Even doing this, you couldn't tell "exactly" where you were at. Pain in the rear end.
Another feature I have fell in love with on the PowerCone is the air meter. I have it mounted on the face of my frag tank stand. When I walk in the basement, I can tell exactly what this skimmer is doing without actually looking at the actual skimmer itself. Very neat.
All of that being said, time will tell on the quality of the pump. It ain't no Red Dragon. I will see how it stands the test of time.
While this skimmer is solid, it's not as solid as a tank like the BK. I loved my BK and the only reason I got rid of it is because I exited the hobby for a short time. This PowerCone is built better than any of the other skimmers I ran tho.
As I said before, I'm really happy at this point.
Hope this helps.
