ATI Straton Pro (102, 153, 204)

I'd strongly consider the original stratons if I were you. I have 6 over my 400 and theyre by far my favorite lights of all time. Every reefer that comes into my living room immediately says the exact same thing. The "pros" really just came about 6 months after the originals were released as a way to curb expenses during covid when they couldn't get the parts they needed to make the original. They came out with a crappier version and labeled it "pro" and hoped no one would notice the most important component was missing (the diffuser).

Anyway, that's my two cents from someone that has 6 originals. I'd go original over "pro" every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
How many Pros have you used to compare?
 
Unfortunately the EU has just banned T5s and they aren't even available in the shops that I trust anymore. So I have to "upgrade" ... what a shame ... I currently own a 6x24W T5 fixture @ roughly 6" above waterline with 4xB+, 1xActinic, 1x6500K. According to BRS this should give a rough 480ish par in the center with an overall avg of 300ish par. I am running this setup for years now and my SPS like it and are used to it. So I would like to keep it similar and am trying to find out what amount of watts the Pro 153 would draw at a similar par setting to make some calculations but cannot find any info on this and unfortunately the ATI app does not have a demo mode where I could figure it out.

Does somebody have some Information about this that they are willing to share? What wattage do I have to expect from the Pro 153 with similar PAR output?
Or if this has already been answered please point me into the right direction.

There is an clause for lights that are used for keeping pets and animals. You will still be able to get T5 tubes for a while yet.

Is that so? That would be great. Then maybe t5s not being available in any of my trusted stores might be a coincidence or people stocking up on them? I hope you are right. Still have a couple of month until I need to change them. But I hope it's just that and not the shops starting to phase out t5s.

But anyway. Is there some info on wattage (approx) at a certain par?

Specialty bulbs are not banned in the EU, this is a false statement. We are still getting regular shipments from ATI Germany so there is no reason you shouldn't have access to bulbs in Germany.
 

Seems like they're starting to become available.

I'll give ATI one thing, they know how to design an aesthetic light fixture.
ETA tbd- yikes. I do love my stratons and have been curiously waiting for the pros but that’s a lot of money for a tbd preorder. Just ask the GHL Ion director queue

I'd wager you will get the Stratons before a probe. And it won't have to be replaced every 3 months.

Honestly, one of the cleanest looking LED fixture's I've ever seen.

First one that made me ditch my T5s too. (Including echotech) The Straton grows coral! Pro would be nice for the larger spread.

Yea but that is a slippery slope. Most EU def. of "specialty" include Medical and industrial uses i.e UV cure lamps ect.
Though it is an opinion t5's can be economically replaced by LEDs
UV t5's would be a specialty bulb though.

Things like high wattage metal halide aquarium bulbs fall into the no substitutes class and did get a pass till 2028-ish??? Since there are no substitutes there also for say UV lamps.
Yet the mh lamp aquarium market seems to be errr receding, possibly just for the time being. We shall see.

Some things are regulations, some things market choices, something's industry whims.

Personally I'd not bet on either side here.

Found the actual legal-eze for the CA ban (Linear fluorescent lamps (aka fluorescent tubes) are prohibited on or after January 1, 2025.)

b) On and after January 1, 2025, a pin-base type compact fluorescent
lamp or a linear fluorescent lamp shall not be offered for final sale, sold at
final sale, or distributed in this state as a new manufactured product.
109022. This chapter does not apply to the following:
(a) A lamp used for image capture and projection, including
photocopying, printing, directly or in preprocessing, lithography, film and
video projection, and holography.
(b) A lamp that has a high proportion of ultraviolet light emission and
is one of the following:
(1) A lamp with high ultraviolet content that has ultraviolet power greater
than two milliwatts per kilolumen (mW/klm).
(2) A lamp for germicidal use, such as the destruction of DNA, that emits
a peak radiation of approximately 253.7 nanometers.

That’s cool I bet that took some serious lobbying from the industry to get that verbiage in there.

They are 30% (your number) more because the housings are each machined out of a single billet of aluminum, at just a 1/2" thick and fanless, they are unlike any other light on the market. Sleek, silent, sophisticated and super sexy.

Well.. the o/p was asking why 30% more for the pro than the original.. Are they not both carved aluminum shells?

I’m super excited to hear more info like this. Top bin diodes I assume? External driver?

I know ATI makes top quality fixtures. Historically
we could depend on BRS to give a quality overview of new fixtures but with them now under the same business umbrella as AI I won’t hold me breath.
