ATO container

Just make sure it's food safe so it doesn't leech any nasty chemicals into your makeup water. Lots of people use Brute trash cans for water storage as it's NSF certified. I've seen people use plastic cereal containers for their nano tanks as well.

I use the white 5 gallon bucket from Lowes for water storage... it's food grade. ;)

16 gallon Ace roto mold is what I use.

I've used grey brute trash cans in the past, 10 gallon or 20 gallon.

The orange Home Depot buckets are not food grade and should not be used for mixing or storing your water. Not sure about the blue Lowes bucket. White buckets are more likely to be food grade. If it's food grade, it would state this under item description or specifications.

For over 11 years I've used orange Home Depot buckets for mixing my water with zero issues. Give them a good clean before use and you're good to go

I'm just saying that they are not food safe and their white buckets are. I smoked for 20 years before I quit and I didn't get lung cancer...

I use a 32G brute trash can that sits in the garage for top off water. I have a long line that comes from the RODI to fill it up. Definitely would recommend if you can!

Goal down the line is to have two more to do auto water change.

Terrible analogy because you did do a lot of damage to yourself and others. That's not the point though. You said they should never be used since they weren't food grade. I simply pointed out that I've never seen issues from them. Almost every reefer I've ever known has also used them at some point.

Would I use one for an ATO container? No, but that's a cosmetic thing.

I just wouldn't spread fear about using them when it's pretty unwarranted IMO.

Not trying to spread fesr. But if there is one kind of bucket that may be safer than the other, use the safer bucket.

I agree. There are better options than a bucket for ATO. I really like the buckets that have measurements on the side. Then you aren't guessing how much water you've actually put in

Long ago I modded a Coralife bucket for top off as seen in the picture. It has a clear tube on the side to show water level inside.
