ATS or Fuge?

Here is a dry mock up of the beginning of the return plumbing with the manifold and the ATS. I know that the ATS pipe is in the way of the ball valves and the unions for my reactors but it cannot go after them because it would interfere with the skimmer placement. What are your thoughts and ideas on this mock up? Thanks.

Depending on how high that pipe for the ATS is from the water line you might need to lower it, other than that it looks good.

It wont be nearly as effecient if u only light 1 side too. But if theres no way to put it somewhere that u can light both sides do what u gotta do haha

The bottom the the ATS pipe is aprox 15" from the top of the return pump, so around 13-14" from the water line would be my guess, can't really know until I get my new sump and move the tank. How far from the water line should it be?

I know this, LOL. Space is limited to say the least. One side is better than none. Now if I had the club standard 180, 6' tank I would have more room.... But I am better than that! LOL.

Just need to figure out screen size first, you want the mesh in the water to keep splashing down. I think my screen is 12x14 lit from both sides with 4cfl's.

My area for the screen will be around 6" x 14" if I use that same screen you do and just cut in half, did you use the same screen from Wal-Mart that Mike did? I am looking into a LED bulb to light it up.

Boy. Remember when i used to get reemed for mentioning algae scrubbers. Nows theres tons of closet users haha with still few admitting.they use :p

I got my screen at Hobby Lobby but it's the same thing. I might have Rick build me a acrylic enclosure for my next ATS and will prolly switch over to leds at some point. According to the ATS thread on RC you need to change cfls every three months. If you look up Floydrturbo on RC or on ATS.org he makes a really nice one but they are pricey.

Mike, this isn't a petting zoo, put the ego away, LOL.

The LED bulb I am looking at is from ReefBreeders, they say every 10 years it needs replaced, they also said every three months the CFL's need replacement.

Yeah I don't know why people get so mad over something like that, I'll try anything if I think that it will work. Well I take that back, I won't put leds over my tank, yet!! Mike, are you doing any water changes while running the ATS? Have heard of some people not having to while running it.

Give me a link on that led, want to see which leds they use.

Here you go Dale:

From ReefBreeders:
The Reef Breeders Fuge-Lite® is an LED grow bulb created specifically for growing algae commonly found in refugiums. These bulbs use 10 660nm and 2 450nm LEDs to grow algae from flame algae and chaeto, to caulerpa and turf algae at a rapid rate.

I figured I would try something new, if I don't like it it has a union and a ball valve, easy to remove either it be on a permanent basis or just a part of my maintenance schedule. The only thing I've heard about ATS is that they can "yellow" or "green" the water a little.

That description looks good, I'll check it out.

i certainly dont do or need them for nutrient export. i once went 6 months without WC and all acros started declining and i couldnt figure why. all test showed normal. did a 40g WC and all looked immediately better next day.

This is false. It used to be because people were cleaning them off in their sump. Been using scrubbers almost 2 years now and never had that problem.

Good to know, why would someone clean it in the sump? Seems somewhat counter-productive to me.
