ATS vs Cheato Refugium (Do they pull out Trace Elements)

I have been wantingto get one and its a good reminder and would be nice to know the levels.
I do test for iodine and its always above 0 and useually .06. Last test 11/25 and .06.
I dont think my system needs any fine tuning though, lol.

I think every system needs fine tuning. Nice teal stag. What’s the name of that one?

I did not have the room for an ATS, lol, so I setup a 30g remote fuge on my 120. I agree most in sump fuges are to small to be efficient and I dont want light anywhere near my sump.

That’s a beauty! Remote refugiums are great. Really any remote tank where you don’t need to bend over to play with it. :-)

So I've been struggling with keeping up with certain trace elements in my heavily populated SPS system. I'm dosing a ton of traces using the Tropic Marin/BRS hybrid system. They recommend as much as 330ml per gallon for well stocked systems, but I'm up to 370ml per gallon and still not getting it done.

Never thought about the giant ball of chaeto in my sump soaking those elements up, mostly the same elements in that macro algae supplement. I found this thread by googling "What elements do chaeto macro algae use". I think I'm going to reduce the "ball" by 75% and keep it that size, as well as turn the fuge lighting down 25%. I'm not even sure I need it these days as I've having to dose Phosphates and Nitrates, but I do like the idea of having a fuge to keep up a healthy pod population in the sump.
