You guys are killing me, (I say that in a not to offend way). Just improve on the Ecotech , maybe add attachments to direct flow. Or do a impeller with cable shaft. Just design a better mouse trap, with the ecotech as the starting point. Just saying

Here's an idea to any and all manufacturers of aquarium powerheads. Wireless Electricity.

Put the pump propeller and motor inside of the tank, on a swivel to make it directional, hold it with a magnet from the outside, have a power cord attached to the outside magnet and supply wireless electricity to the motor inside of the aquarium. Boom, no wires, and you could point it in any direction.

There, that's my idea. No idea if it's possible, but.....maybe...

Thoughts anyone?

Here's someone thinking outside the box

I missed that and you are absolutely correct. I use RODI water for cooling on a 35kV system at work because it is an excellent insulator.
I worked for the oil and gas industry and built antennas. Before I built them I had to test them in water to make sure the insulation was not broken. I think it was like 10k dcv at 3 amps. Don't stick your finger in that water, lol.

I'm pretty sure you know this one, 1 amp under right conditions can kill a person.

try 100mA. Voltage doesn't kill people, current does.

1A, while a lot, has the potential not to kill you, but it's gonna mess you up pretty bad.

I only read the first couple pages of this thread, but... Has everyone claiming this is not possible never seen a Vortech? Power cord on the outside, wireless transfer of power through the glass to propeller on the inside? The only thing it's missing is the ability to swivel the inside part.

So... Don't kill the messenger here, but this IS doable and several companies are already working on it.

This video is from a company that already has a sponge filter and LED lights working without ANY wires. This is the very concept that the OP mentioned.

Ecotech and other companies are currently working to improve the voltage of the magnetic field. I'd say... 3 more years maybe?

I love when people say... "it can not be done"

I just tell tell them... "Hold my beer ..."

Update: I just noticed that someone already posted the link above and was shot down because of lack of power.

I'd say, try this one created by BMW for their hybrids. This might run a few Ecotech pumps... :)
