Aussie Tenuis ID

I got the frag about 5 weeks ago and snapped the top off a week ago mate. I run 400W Radiums and T5's. The frag swap thing was just a joke btw, i don't do that stuff normally. The only reason i have the piece from Danny is because he sent it as a gift for me to the guy who is my back up buddy for cool acros and he dropped it off to me on his way home from picking his box up at the airport.

The acro was collected in July this year by Ultra Coral Australia from memory. This is the colony from which Danny bought a chunk not long after collection. Looks more like vermiculata to me.

Yeah it was from Ultra Coral Australia. He got 1/3rd of what they collected, the other 2/3rds went to Korea.

You could be right that it is vermiculata. They are very similar do you know how to tell the difference between the 2?

You usually see thicker tips like in the pic, a bit similar to the inside of SSC colonies. Tennuis tends to have finer longer uprights and when you feel the two you notice tennuis has very sharp flared corallite lips rather than rounder ones on the verm. It's very hard because both grow dramatically different in different flow conditions but regardless i think it's a little stunner.

Yeah now that you say it from seeing the colony of it. It did look a little bit different to the colonies of Tenuis.

Always interesting to learn the different species and yes it is definitely a stunner. Really starting to get some growth now.

When i look at a ' rainbow ' under my blue plus type T5's i don't look through an orange filter with violets, reds and blues set at max. I see garbage colors on most of my acros as i have a red, orange and pink acro heavy display.

You shouldn't stress at all about not having access to the US ' rainbow ' tennuis type acros Brett. I've seen walt disney and then knocked back a free frag which should tell you all you need to know about what that looks like in real life lol. I've seen homewrecker and it's actually bloody nice under full spectrum but nothing like under giggle photography.

Don't ever think we can't spank the yanks at will when it comes to real rainbows buddy, you wouldn't look twice at a homewrecker if it was cowering near a GBR acro.

Merry Xmas from me and the Yankwrecker, it's lucky there's hardly any Americans on here otherwise they might take offence at what i just named it.......... ;)

Yeah I'm not stressed about not having access to the US rainbow corals as I am aware of the nice corals we have access to here. I have been to the US and went to a few stores and realise how lucky we are to have access to so much acro and such cheap colonies.

I would pick to be here vs being in the US. We can set up and fill a tank with acro a lot cheaper than you could in America. There isn't anything like having tanks full of fresh acro to choose from.

Merry Christmas to you too.

I believe a lot about what you say man but my WD looks really nice under all lights, I never take pictures under all blue. I thought the WD pictures were fake too but if you color it up good it is nice.

Wow that's a nice WD.

Yeah I know it obviously looks better under blue's but as you have shown it can still be nice under whites.

Thanks! I actually like it better under whites because under blues unless you have orange glasses (which who wears those) you just see nice polyps. I really dont like looking at my tank under just blues, I am thinking about selling my reefbrite lights.

I was just stirring about your WD etc Cody lol, i know you have heaps of nice corals in the US mate. :)

Haha I gotcha. You guys have some insane corals and I wish I could get some in your tank. I like the corals that look good in white lights like your whole tank pretty much.

Merry Christmas yall!
