AWC %

I will likely be using the Apex DOS. Since Im on the subject anyone happen to know the maximum amount the DOS can actually dose within 15-30mins?[/QUOTEI have my dos doing 32000 ml a day total split in 2. No problems

I just setup the Genesis Renew automatic water change system. Right now I have about 400g volume and will be adding a 400g tank soon. I have mine set to change out 15 gallons per day. The Genesis sytem meters exactly one gallon at a time in separate 1 gallon bins so I think doing it all in one day does not give it enough time to dilute into the rest of the system before it sucks the same water out. So that's why I do 15g per day

I use two Spectrapure pumps (just the dumb pumps, not the whole LiterMeter) for my automatic water change. 16 minutes does about a gallon for me, three days a week on my 46 bowfront reef.
They're great little pumps. Fresh saltwater is in my laundry room about 20' away. The tubing goes down into the crawl space, across to where the fist tank is, then back up into the sump. My drain pump is next to the sump; it pumps down into the crawl space and into a bathroom drain pipe about 15' away.

I just started doing my AWC the end of January for your same reasons. I live in FL, storing water in my garage at any point in the year for even a 10% water change is not an option for me due to temperature concerns. I got tired of mixing brute barrels full of water in my guest bathrooms and wheeling them over to the tank, just to perform a water change with temperature correct water. I set up my old Spectra Litermeter III to replace 3 liters a day ≈1% on my 60 gallon cube (75 gallon total with sump) 2omL at a time 150 times a day. So far everything has been rock steady. I have my 20 gallon container in my garage for saltwater and I use my drain line for my washing machine for old water; about a 25' run. I ran the 1/4" tubing behind my baseboards and I mix saltwater with the HW Marinemix Professional salt about every 22 days. My tank has never looked better and no more trash barrels in the house!

I have been using a DOS to do my water changes on my 120 with water from my shed and it works very well. I dont remember the exact # of potential water loss from AWC but its very minimal, something like less than half a gallon every 10gallons changed, so i would not worry about the % lost.
I recommend pulling dirty water from the main chamber of the sump where the returns drain and putting new water in the last chamber of the sump, right before the return pump.

I've been doing 10 gallon AWC a week on a 120 and every couple of weeks I use my shop vac on the crap collected in the overflow and detritus in the sump. Now on the new tank I am debating on going bare bottom, so the detritus will be a lot less, so I will have to up the AWC by 1-2% to keep it in line.

Best thing I've done to minimize the bucket walk and spill to the tank and sink was to spend the extra $ and setup a AWC.

I'm actually debating in purchasing a second DOS and utilizing the AWC from the DT in my FT and from the FT to the drain and this way I will minimize the water changes on the FT as well. that would be a double DOS setup performing dual AWC at the same time.
