Awesome SPS Growth with LED's

chameleon i have no idea what the name of the acro behind the bonsi i got it from AF it growing like crazy n have a frag of it sitting right next it. i still love ur red meat it one of my favorite coral in ur tank aside the milis.
what color is it?? (excuse the colorblind) we may have to trade some frags. The meat coral is actually a scolly that decided to flatten out for some unknown reasonin the last month or so. Thanks for the compliment.

The T fitting thats on the skimmer is actually the intake of the skimmer. This allows the bio pellet reactor to dump directly into the intake of the skimmer.

Anyone who still has doubts about LED's being able to grow sps are just delusional. The par on these things is def not the problem. I ran 400's for yrs and never really burnt anything. With these led's the par is so high u can smoke a coral in a matter of days. Do they hit all the spectrum's that MH do? No, but with the new colors you can hit many wavelengths to have sps flourish with awesome color. I currently have 7 different spectrums of led over my cube and still want to add a few warm or neuatral white as well. Its pretty much the same with T5 hit the scene. Now no one questions there ability.

They definitely grow sps, and can give great color, but I've noticed from personal experience and seeing progress pics that the color can change a bit. When I get a awesome colored frag in, it would change under leds a bit. Still bright, just different.
My radium bulb seems to give best color to sps for me. Same color from pics of colony my frag comes from at least.

I actually bought an Apogee Par meter and I'm measuring local tanks with all types of lighting. I have found that the MH and LED have the same par readings around the first 6", depending on flow, but the MH Looses its par at a much more consistent rate than the LED's. the thing with an LED fixture is you need some way to dial it in or you will burn up corals or not give them enough light. I love LED but I also like MH.

My Vertex Illumina 260 runs at 60% an I can equal the PAR a 400 watt MH up top. On the bottom my LEDs run in the 200 range an MH is around 300-350.

Many people don't have problems with the par values but they do have problems with the color of the corals from leds. I have two different diy led fixtures and get good growth from both but they each make the same corals color different. Mostly warm colors are the biggest change between the two fixtures.

I think the same holds true for MH also. I have two friends both with MH and the same coral looks different in each tank.

What's the par readings at the sand bed with leds?

This 2 months growth under my GEN 1 Radions with TIR lens upgrade. I have to get my march pics up here sometime too LOL. As far as growth I have been extremely happy, the one thing that had me concerned was color. I read a lot about how leds change colors and a lot of people say its for the worse. I completley DISAGREE! the colors have changed since i made the switch from T5 to LED but out of all my corals (all sps) the color has shifted for the better, colors are brighter, and richer. I also got a few new hues that I was never able to achieve with t5s. I have a friend who i bank a lot of corals with and he runs a hamilton fixture with a 14k phoenix bulb along with ATI blue+ for supplimentation and i have to say my corals color is about the same as his, at a fraction of the cost, and some pieces look unbelievably better under my leds than under his halides or my old 8 bulb t5s. I am extremely glad i made the switch! anyway on to a couple growth shots of my pink lemonade frag and my upscales frag :D
