Back at it! Peroxide vrs cyanobacteria

I checked a few days ago, nitrates are <40. Looking more and more like that substrate change is in order to get this nipped in the bud quickly.

Can cyano take 'hold' nitrates as well. Could my dosing peroxide be releasing nitrates as they die, only to be taken up by the remergence?

Any mechanism of killing cyano is going to allow the dead bodies to break down and push up levels on N and P. So keeping up with nutrient export is important.

I understand that it is an organic breakdown but I am assuming its in such small amounts it is not being seen.

Is 1ml/10gal every 12 hours a good starting point? Seems to be what everyone is doing. I want to start as I can't get rid of it all from siphoning and replacing sand. It grows back not half as bad still comes back. Do I need to take carbon or gfo out?

For instance.. I am dosing 4ml in my 20 gallon frag tank with absolutely no negative affects. (Dosing for other reasons besides cyanobacteria )
I have yet to see h2o2 in 12 hour dosings causing any ill changes in the tanks.
Once h2o2 is fully understood by a person then at that time will that person realize the importance of 12 hour dosing.

I have a pretty bad cyno outbreak. I have been dosing for 7 days with no real change.

I am dosing in my sump, and my return pump does feed a few other tanks in the sump room. Essentially I'm probably dosing my sump with more H2O2 than the display.

Tonight once the lights went out, I used room light to dose directly on the cyno with a 5ml syringe. I can see some of it falling off as it is blasted with the syringe. I am trying to be very careful with livestock and not dose in places where I know that fish hide at night.

It just stops spreading and may turn into a black mat.

I noticed something interesting today. When I did my afternoon dose before the lights came on, I checked the skimmer and heard a new "fizzing" sound... the same sound peroxide makes when bubbling on a wound it has been poured on. Also, my skimmate is darker and has more chunks in it. Just thought I'd share my observation.

Yes, I may very an hour or two because of work.

Next week I have to of out of town. I'm thinking of using a dosing pump during this time.

So, day 2 for me. Minor decrease in co2 bubbles on cyano. Cant neccissarily credit this to the peroxide wit any evidence. However i did remove my gfo to study the phosphates. I had as of a week ago high phos of about .51. Today they were .26. The gfo could be a primary cause here but i plan to follow it with only peroxide. Since my new edition of sps ive had to begin dosing calc.

No noticable decline in the size of cyano matts yet however. Will post pics when lights on

How affective are the findings on GHA

If you dose to the water to affect GHA, outcomes vary. If you take out GHA rocks from the water, scrape off the algae from the rock fully, then treat the *cleaned off* area with peroxide outside the tank to burn out the holdfasts that regrow, it's ultimately effective.

This test is not recording the changes of GHA as it is not the scope of this work.
Some members are making observations to the change though I am not recording them.

Wow day 3 here at 1ml per 10gal. And a significan reduction in a cyano patch. I had a hand full of small patches which are gone. Here a pic of the only remaining patch at 50percent its origanal size.

Should i consider other alternatives to it demise? Considering the short time ive been dosing? Or do you believe its possible to be taking effect this quick?
