None ever documented. They will have stabilizers that food grade doesn't have

Doesn't matter, 99% of all online data (a good thou pages says goog) about peroxide in the reef tank is brown bottle.

There are times where anecdote becomes the reference, this is one of those instances.

Is everyone just using the regular store bought brown bottle peroxide? I think I read this way back in the thread but can't find it and the thread grew too big. Sorry for the repeat question. I know food grade would be ideal but it is harder to come by and expensive and was just wondering if anyone has had negative affects from regular brown bottle
That is exactly what I am using. I have a 36 gallon bowfront with sump. I am dosing 4-5ml 2x a day. I am using a cheap plastic pipette so it is not accurate. I just dose into my sump morning and evening.
 
All claims about bacterial safety in experimenting come from the fact nobody reports spikes in ammonia, not even gross overdose threads.

we don't find statisicance in nitrate rising either (where oxygenation even under the point of microbial lethality is said to neutralize the conditions that favor anaerobic denitrification=nitrate spike)

changing organic complexes could just as easily feed a nitrate spike after complete degradation, emulating bacterial loss, but someone might assume it kills denitrifiers...confounds exist in the reef tank compared to other test environments that make it not devastating to the tank.


Mats of cyano are bacteria, we're killing them, ergo it kills bacteria-

*not if filter bacteria are on the list of sensitives and cyano (fully different species) are on the list of mighty intolerant
We demonstrated two types of reef shrimps already who have heritable, transmissible tolerance/intolerance as a lineage to peroxide--stenopus vs lysmata



When groups of bacteria/monera are isolated away from inclusions and insulations afforded specifically by marine substrate in lab tests, the test outcomes vary slightly from in-tank conditions. That's what I like about this thread most, it's pics and in-tank conditions to track and predict, heart of an experiment. Lab tests reflect lab conditions, and marine tank tests reveal in tank conditions, that's the nature of peroxide in the reef imo.

Dosing with a syringe directly on the cyno is making real headway after three days!

I remember seeing some people do this on Troy's thread for hair algae.

You need to be careful with your livestock when doing this! If you get a full dose on the gills of anything, it can toast their gills.

Of course part of the fun of sticking my hands in the tank with lights out is the got nailed pretty good by my long spine urchin
 
Day 3 cyno is looking darker, there are some bubbles on top of the cyno in a spot.

Would bubbling at night effect this?
 
I wouldn't think so, not sure if the h2o2 would bond to the bubble surface.

I started bubbling about 1 week before H2O2. The bubbling did nothing to my cyno.

After 3 days of adding directly to cyno with a syringe, this morning it is 95% gone. I added H2O2 for a week to the sump before using the syringe with no noticeable effect to cyno.

I can't say that the bubbling made any cyno go away. Until someone comes up with something negative about bubbling, I'll continue.

It defiantly makes your water clearer. Long term, I'm hoping that it will help prevent the cyno from returning.
 
Bubbles would make a great carrier of the cyanobacteria cells. As long as they are exported I see no issue.

Well I am going to start today. I won't be able to contribute anything other than anecdotal evidence, but here is my information.
I bubble about 7 to 8 hours a night. I will start with the 1ml to 10 gallon ratio, on a 12 hour cycle. The morning will be lights off, 6 am and the evening at 6 pm will be lights on for 2/3 hours longer and bubbling will start 4 hours after the evening dose.

Any suggestions?

I have a lot of frags on the sand bed because I just broke down a frag tank. I'm getting ready to attach to my rock.

I like this plan. I am amazed at how well you can see it with that lens!
Keep an update going you have quite the population of cells

If there's a skimmer, they are being pre-collected for skimming. If no skimmer, it may just be moving them around.

Do you currently dose any carbon into the tank (vinegar, ethanol, vitamin C e.t.c.)?

I'm saying this because if you do, it might be wise to switch to another source of carbon, say vinegar to vodka as an example.

The reasoning behind this was that you starved the bacteria when you removed the one carbon source it was using as nourishment. Randy did a write up on it quite a while ago now.

Many years ago I had a heavy infestation of the bright green cyano, similar to what you seem to have on the rock work and switched from vinegar/sugar to vodka...in 5 days my cyano was gone!!

I am not dosing any carbon source. I feed LRS and mysis 4 times a week, algae sheets 2 times a week, reef chilli 2 times a week and Fuel AAs 1 to 2 times a week. I dose kalk and nitrates to keep my No3 at 5 ppm. I skim, and have chaeto. More info than you asked for but you know reefers.......we love to tell you what we're doing to our tanks.[emoji2]
