Any ideas how to protect the tank bottom...I am planning to do bare bottom and worried if accidentally I drop a huge rock and crack the bottom. Also, recently I have seen BRS had a board glued to the bottom before aquascape...cant remember what it is or where can I get one. Thanks!

Thanks! Will take a look. Does anyone know where to order them?

I used boatoutfitters.com and ordered a custom size. When you select the size the bottom option is custom. I have done this three times and was happy with each cut. For my 45 gallon I did 1/2” thickness with a small gap around to the glass. I went with black every time, but note their Sea Foam color is close to aragonite.

Thanks everyone for pitching in.

Does the boatoutfitters have somekind of texture to it...like the one shown in BRS video?

Well, I would say it has a very minimal texture, but is fairly smooth to the touch. My live rock was not slippery at all on it and sits well anchored. I use the same in my freshwater Betta tank and those smooth stones are a bit more slippery on it. It is hard to tell how textured the BRS version is without feeling it. Basically, what I use is a cutting board like in the kitchen.

I hate to see any shiny or smooth bottom in my tank...that another reason why I want something other than glass. The look of the ABS board is good.

Any concerns on messing with water params by using these on a long run? I read all of them indicate they are safe to use in water.

here are few pictures when the tank was being built at my house, black abs is sitting on the bottom glass and finished tank..

Any pictures of the tank after the setup with rock and saltwater?

Thats a huge setup and lot of work...I didnt realize the tank size by the pics you sent earlier. I need to follow your thread too. Good luck with that!

The ABS board texture is kind of rough right...I mean not smooth.

That is what I use. White starboard looks great, I am not a fan of the black pvc bottom at all.
White also help reflect light back up so there is less shading issues.

Would you mind sharing a pic of your tank with the startboard? Thanks.

My new tank is not done yet. I just got mine this week off ebay and it is also textured.
I will be changing my other systems too..

If you search reef and starboard there are allot of pictures out there.
I just prefer white because it looks more natural and reflects light.
Led being so directional it can help a little.
Some people like black and that is cool. I just prefer a more natural look myself.
I will see if I can dig a few up on R2R.

These threads have some pic.

I installed a 1/2" PVC bottom for my bare bottom tank. I found the PVC sheet at home depot. It does float but between the rocks and an edge seal it stays in place.
