Ok, I know I'm gonna catch some flack for this. But I could not resist. I know ill have to rehome him eventually. So ill take the beatdown. ;-)
I went to my lfs today and saw a barracuda. Such an awsome predator. Such a cool looking fish. I was like a kid in a candy store. I asked if it ate. The store owner dropped in a tuffy. And it was on it in a second. I convinced myself it would be ok in my fug e. Atleast for a while. And it should not hurt my bugs or snails. So I brought him home.
This is my new 5" barracuda :-D I was hoping to learn about anyone's experience with these fish or hear any advice I could on care.

Ok let the beatdown begin....

that video of the barracuda eating a whole frozen chunk of w/e it is seems like that could shock its system a little bit(just a thought)...i think i would defrost and get food close to the temp of water before feeding. that fish just probably ate 10% of its own weight that was frozen

I think you are going to need a bigger tank...like 1000gallons. Not joking

Yeah I know I'll have to rehome him at some point. But it will be cool to have for a while. Then maybe if I have it long enough I will donate it to my local aquarium

Awesome no doubt. But they grow fast.... So your "some point" might be less than 2 years. They get like 7 feet dude

There are some things that are worth the tank police coming after you and this is it!!
Thx for agreeing.Exactly my thoughts. And I know I will do as good a job as anyone else taking care of him.

I'm buying a house in a year anyway. So if I can keep them that long I will be thrilled. And who knows my basement might be big enough for a swimming pool sized fish tank;-)

Had a barracuda back in the day about 8 years ago it was an awesome fish until it ate a full grown Midas Blenny and was rehomed lol but either way such a great fish and loved watching it eat! Enjoy it while you can cuz they grow fast :)

You can save money if you look into building a pond. I was about to build a 10x6 pond for my shark....would have been around $200. But that is just wood frame, fill dirt, pond liner. I already had the pumps and stuff.

I would say those other two smaller fish in your tank have less than two months before they become fish bait!

one of the fastest burst speed, and they prey on everything with a fin lol. cool fish rarely see them in the hobby

He is the only fish in my refugium so there's no one to eat lol

Way cool what are the chances it could live in the wild once it gets too big? Or would it just starve? Be rad if he could go back after you fatten him up
