Bashsea Bio Fuge

I decided to go with a manufactured sump. By the time I buy a tank in the size I need and find a baffle kit, it's not that much more to have one delivered to my door! I love the triggers but they are too much $$. Found the Bashsea Bio Fuge. It has the largest fuge section of all I've seen and meets the 10% of display volume pretty close.

Anyone have this sump? Thoughts if you do? What you like, what you don't?

Literally in the same position as you and will probably order exact same model and size tomorrow. More skimmer and fuge room than the trigger 34 and 36.

Synergy too much money.

This seams appears option to me too.

Seems like a lot of new builds beginning end of 2017 and into 2018. I'll be lucky if I get water in tank by end of March. Goal this month is to get stand (delivery Wed next week), get sump, and do what I want inside stand. Have drawing in my 125 tank build. Of course, the sump arrangements are now different as I'm not customizing my own! I'll have to redo and put in this one.

I am actually looking at the Bashsea sumps after using a Trigger Systems sump for years. Seems to be very well built (like the Trigger sumps). My LFS has one in stock so I have had the chance to look at it a few times. I am looking at the ss-36 model.

I have the ss-60. It's for my 210 build. I really like. It is very well made. Plenty of space for the massive 8-24 twisted skimmer.

I have that sump. The fuge section is not 20.5" x 13.25". It is 14" x 13.25".

It is a very nice sump. I modified mine a bit and siliconed a piece of acrylic over the output on the fuge section to keep a consistent water level. ATO mounted in the return section.

I sent a message to Bashsea to confirm fuge size as even their website says it is that big. Won't matter. That is what I think I'm going with.

Ya I just got the 36x18x18 sump running in my tank. Bashsea did confirm that the fuge section is wrong in there graphic. I told them to fix it but looks like they haven’t yet. I’ll work on getting some more up to date pics when I get home

It's not their graphic but the description on all sites that sell the sump. @tito above says it is It is 14" x 13.25 (for the 36x14x16) I figure it close to 11 gal if filled to 14 inches, a bit less if only 12 inches

While I dont have that exact sump, I do have a Bashsea Signature Series sump (also purchased from Premium Aquatics) that Ive been running since this spring. I really like the sump itself and the construction is really solid.

when you were estimating the total volume of the fuge. One thing to note if you actually want to take advantage of the baffle and not have chaeto floating all over the skimmer section the water does not get anywhere near the top of the sump.

That also surprised me. The good news for that is that if your pumps turn off and the tank back siphons quite a bit the sump can hold a ton of extra water.

You have two water heights. The skimmer section and the rest of the sump. Unless you decide you don’t want compartment....which I think would defeat the purpose. The skimmer section max height is 10 inches. Then the baffle lets water flow over. I leave my fuge at 9.5 inches so that the chaeto won’t be able to flow over into the skimmer section.

So ya. That might help you calculate the actual volume of the sump section. 14x13.25x9.5

cool. I use one of the online tools for it. So that would be just over 7 gal. Not as much as I wanted but if I add some rock to the sock/skimmer area as I don't have a lot of equipment, that is extra filtration. I'll put a powerhead in there to keep debris from settling. Looks like there is a sponge next to the return pump area. Is that useable for media like purigen or carbon? Wish they had better pics of all around the sump!

Just ordered it! Stand arrives Wed. Sump on Thursday! Whoo hoo I've never set up a sump and plumbing! Glad my first foray into saltwater was with an AIO!

The “sponge” is not quite a sponge. It’s actually really cool looking but I’m not sure what to call it. It’s this really rigid pile of noodles.... it comes in a few pieces so it can be removed and cleaned. But it’s mainly there to keep stuff out of your return. It’s not going to be a big nitrate factory if you forget to take it out like a sponge would be.

I think you’ll really like it! The water height thing bugged me a little but overall I really like the sump. It’s really well built.
