Battling Dino's. What's this worm thing

I pulled a huge batch of hair algae that's been growing since doing po4. And put it under scope to see if it's bryopsis or GHA. I see the dang Dino's in the hair but what's the moving worm thing

 
I siphoned about 25g of display water and left my uv going during this time. Siphoned the sand through 10 micron 7" filter sock and recycled water back into the tank. Sand looks white lol. Atleast for now

In one of the vids (tank slide) two Dino types, Coolia darker rounder and larger, large cell amphidinium the lighter smaller oval type.

the spiral compartment things are foraminifera, the large brown round scooting thing in the center is a ciliate Euplotes. There’s also a copepod in the center bottom half.
everything that isn’t the two dinos is fine and good to have.

Explains why uv isn't working since large ones don't go into water column. I'm getting brightwell silica Monday. I will be forcing diatoms. And I feel like uv hasn't done anything for coolia. Never ending battle. Lol. It's either make me a reefer or break me!

Aw come on. I've managed to get outbreaks of the 5 major kinds in my systems (only one outbreak in my main tank, after that I just grew them in a test tank.)
That's no reason to surrender. :)

Gonna respond to your message here for benefit of whoever.
I said that these two kinds are typically non-toxic.
You said that your snails are falling over, and that you are adding pods and considering live phyto.

This is a problem, though Large Cell Amphidinium and Coolia are often low/no toxin, that isn't always true, and the snails are telling you there's toxins involved. adding pods or phyto in this context is simply adding organisms that will die due to dino toxins, and feed the bloom.
You may even need to move the snails if they stay lethargic, rather than letting dead snails fuel more dinos.
 
I just went through a massive Dino outbreak too. UV didn’t help. I think they just swam through it to get a tan and went right back to hanging on my sand and corals like a snot blanket. I finally resorted to shortening my light schedule and sticking to blues but think the mechanical removal was the biggest piece of my plan that beat them. I did water changes and sucked out what I could then hung a strip of filter pad from an algae clip with a power head blowing water over it and stirred the surface of the sand bed and basted the rocks and corals. The dinos stick to the filter pad like Velcro. After a week of doing this and cleaning the pad strip every time it turned brown, my 65 gallon tank has been Dino free with white sand.

I check the remaining snails. If they don't move in a day or two I toss them.

I've read pods can help combat so I ordered a crap load lol. All this money spent may backfire......
 
I just started my phyto and tisbe pod culture. Lol.
well, if you're committed then go for it.
just take pics and document how the dino bloom progresses. If it's not too toxic, it may work.
 
@taricha, in his second slide I think I'm seeing the coolia and amphidinium (is this slide under fairly low power?). There is a single very large ovoid shaped critter that is shaped much like an ostreopsis dino but is huge. What is that?

it's a ciliate, likely euplotes

if you mean this, it's a foraminifer, I think.

I have attached a still from Michael's movie "tank". I have been playing around with a microscope and am trying to figure out what I am seeing. A, B, and C are all small roundish objects. Are they all dino's? D, E, and F are mysteries to me.

C and b might be my two forms of Dino's that @taricha pointed out. Others I don't know I trust taricha when he said everything looks good as apart of the eco. D. My other half called me in and told me we have a pen15 in my tank. Weirdo
 
B is amphidinium and C. is coolia. A is what I was asking taricha about. F appears to be a snail of some kind.

D.....no comment....though I see those often on slides of my tank! :p
 
A - ciliate mentioned earlier
B - Large cell Amphidinium dino
C - Coolia dino
D - a rude piece of debris (I don't know) :-)
E - maybe sponge spicule? They break into glassy pieces of all kinds of shapes
F - another foram
