I wanted to share with the community my girlfriends 1st grade classroom tank.

It is a very simple system at the moment. The tank and stand was donated by Exotic Fish & Corals, Milford CT. The rest of the equipment I had laying around or I purchased.

Equipment List:

25 Gallon Marineland RR tank
10 gallon baffled sump
Aqueon Pro Heater
2x Koralia Nano 240 powerheads
AI Prime LED
Ehiem return pump (unsure of model)

The goal of this tank is to educate the young kids about aquatic life, additional responsibility (feeding) and caring for the tank.

Right now the only inhabitants are a pair of clowns (appropriately named Nemo and Nina by the kids). Tank will most likely just house soft corals and maybe a nem when the time is right.

Awesome! Always good to get kids started young. Are you concerned about them putting their hands in the tank?

I'm not concerned at all, the kids are not quite that tall yet to be reaching into the tank standing. When she does feeding (she has a weekly helper who feeds the tank so everyone gets a chance to be tank captain) the kids need to step on the step stool in order to feed the pellets. What is not pictured in the tank is a piece of blue tape on the floor that she put down so the kids cannot cross that line, viewing from a good distance to aid in not touching and poking the glass.

Is this tank on Beecher Rd in Woodbridge?

That is correct, are you from the area?

I lived on rt114 in Woodbridge went to Amity High. Moved to Vt in 1982

I could do Friday afternoon or evening, or Saturday until early afternoon if that works for you.
I also have a really small toadstool nub (bout the size of a quarter). You can have that too if you like.
If you still have my info send me a text tomorrow or Friday, and we'll meet up.

Making hobbyists one child at a time! :)

Oh yes, and every Friday we are shooting for a new addition to the tank. The kids will write about it in their weekly journal and their parents will ask them what is new in the tank.

Plus she's getting more into reefing which makes it alot more fun!

Another week down with the school tank has proven challenging. Daily manual top offs have become a nuisance so I picked up the Tunze Nano top off for the tank. So the swings in salinity are making the corals a little unhappy. Will be installing that this week!

Current picture...added a new coral on the bottom left. The name escapes me...will be adding a RBTA at the end of this week

The kids also take turns feeding the fish they have a set number of pellets they feed in order to not overfeed the tank.

Mike, looks like the Nepthea opened up nicely.

Yes it looks awesome! I may have the light a little high so its stretching for light, but the kids love everything!

They came in today super excited for their new coral! It's awesome to see them going around the classroom and bringing kids over to the tank letting them know about the cool new corals.

PS - The classroom tank looks better than my reef tank at home!
