Before i cut the hole in my sump?

I have an external reeflo super dart gold pump and need to know if anyone uses sound/vibration dampener pad under it. Depending on the size of the pad this will determine where i cut my bulkhead hole in the sump?

By the way the pump will be on the concrete basement floor. not sure if you still need a dampener for that?

I haven't even ordered my tank so take this with a gain of salt. But for the $5, I figure it can only help and worst case I never know I didn't need it. I would hate to do all that work to only wish I had it.

Yes unless you’re at enough away that noise and vibration aren’t a concern. Also don’t forget a method to shut that hole when you have to pull the pump offline. They still sell those pumps btw? I would so much more recommend a mag drive type based on my experience and from friends having those.

Will you be using rigid PVS from bulkhead to pump? Flex tubing also reduces vibration to the sump. If using flex tubing, you have a little wiggle room on the height of the hole that you drill in the sump.

Concrete floor, dart gold hybrid and hammerhead gold hybrid. I use a wooden block covered with duct tape and taped to that is a layer of rubber sound dampener pads. (brs ones) 2 wide for the front mounts and 1 under the back of the motor. The pumps will still send vibrations thru any pvc connected to them unless you use a flex piece in between. I dont because they are in the tank room.
Funny thing is, the dart is much louder than the hammerhead

I also used dampener pads under my pump. Heavy duty rubber that they use under heavy equipment in factories.

I see that there is a hybrid still made, supposedly they push ALOT of water if needed just not as controllable as a DC pump. But i will be buying a backup pump in the near future since i know this one is pretty old and it will probably be an insump pump.

hmm..didn't think of that Jaeb! Right now im building the plubing plan and laying it out so the idea of some flex hose to the sump might be a good idea. Now to find 2" flex tubing for the inlet! lol thx

I was told a Dart/Snapper would be near silent about 6 years ago when I first setup my current tank.
So I went with it. Boy were they wrong. I endured the noise for a few months before switching out pumps.
If I were you ( since you haven't heard this pump run), I would at least get some ideas on a backup pump.
Have something in mind before suddenly having to make a rush decision.

Dont know if you buy stuff from BRS but they have 2" vinyl braided tubing. They also have a softer silicone tubing but the max size is 1.5" in black.

I got my spa flex from mclendons hardware store. It is waaaay more expensive than regular pvc. Just saying. Also I just have a Mr clean magic eraser under my return pump, it works fine.

That all depends on where the sump is in comparison to your display, and how much volume your overflow is designed for. Oh, and whether you're going to manifold off for accessories.

Spa flex from sump to pump, a small section after the pump before you hard plumbing, and a thicker yoga mat under the pump. With the spa flex, you can lift the pump up and down a bit to get the yoga mat under it without causing too much strain on the plumbing.

Just installed a reeflo hammerhead/barracuda hybrid on an external basement sump for a friend. Dead silent, other then some whirring thats expected in a large pump.

IMO, you really only need 5x to 6x the tank volume through the overflow after headloss. 1000 to 1200 gph.
You also need to figure out exactly what your overflow will handle, but since the system already had a Dart on it, I'm sure the drain capacity won't be a issue.
My first thought on pumps for a system ( I like quiet pumps) would be a Vectra M1, at the most radical a Vectra L1

I use a Red Dragon 80 watt pump for my return on my 233.
Then I would look at Fluval SP6.

I've used several DC pumps externally and have used pvc for all with zero noise/vibration issues.
