Don't let them sell you a lawnmower blenny lot of them thinks it's the same but it's not. the coral reef in TN tank raises them and their cheap. You can google them their online.

Coming back into this one, I had a huge aptasia and thought it was a anemone at first. I have just set up my tank after a long break. Left it alone and the thing was like 3 inches. then I tried to kill it with one of the aptasia liquids and that when I had the spread. Then I brought in the Matted File Fish (aka Matt) and it took him about two weeks the clean up the tank. I get one or two that pop up every once in a while and I think he wait for them to grown a bit and eats them. I have about 45 corals in my tank and Matt does not bother any of the corals. Matt keeps to himself and when I hit the room he as at the front of the tank looking for food. The reason I underline the Matted File Fish is they are also called. aptasia eaters. So make sure the LFS has the Matted File Fish and just not another type of file fish. If they do not have one see if they can order one in for you. They are a really cool fish to watch swim around and they have the barb thing that flips up and down. I have had mine for almost a year and he like frozen but is now eating nori with the tangs

I think Im gonna get one of these guys, and if he doesnt do the trick then I will get a molly miller blenny.

Ok the only problem is that I'm scared that he will eat my palys and some of my other corals. Ive been reading online, and most reviews say they are not reef safe, they eat soft corals along with lps. I just dont want him eating all my expensive corals that I've shelled out lots of money for.

One of the other things about the matted file fish, they do not grow large like tangs or other large fish. Give the fish a couple day and you should see some results in a week. Once the aptasia is gone just feed some frozen and all your meat eater will be happy.

Here is a link to my tank build, and you can see what corals I have in the tank and he has not attacked the corals. I had a few in my tank tried Nudibranch's and they didn't do it. Think I may have to much flow in my tank for them to do their work. Tried Laser works fine but only on ones close to the glass farther into the tank irritated the aiptasia did not kill. Super glue. does a great job on frags if you can remove them from the tank and place in a small plastic dish. Then wait for the aiptasia to come back out after retracting.Then glue them to death. Real fun to do.

Pepermint shrimp's finally did the job for me. They started knock them off one at a time. Every day I would come home and check the tank and find one or two less. The shrimp's do their magic at night so you really have to look for them in the day time. Fish can be fincle as far as eating aiptasia I have had several club members try the file fish mentioned in the thread and it didn't eat aiptasia.

The Molly Millers from the coral reef are tank raised disease free put them straight in the tank and their acclimation says float 15 min and put in tank I done that and the fish I got is as hardy as any in the tank.

@Mike628 sorry it took me awhile to respond. I don't think a filefish is a great option. I worked at a LFS we ordered in the ORA aptasia eating filefish (matted filefish). There were a lot of aptasia in the display tank - I never saw one chowing down. Berghia do the trick, it takes awhile and it won't be the those first 4 that clear your infestation it'll be their subsequent generations. I think four would be plenty as long as you have no peppermint shrimp / coral banded shrimp they tend to be nudibranch predators.

And wrasse. I have a ton of wrasse I can't see nudi going past them into my display, or frag tank for that very reason.

i have a red sea reefer 450 and i went with 15 to get rid of a ton of aptasia, 5 weeks later i couldn't find an aptasia if you paid me to. they definitely get sucked into the overflow and rally in the filter sock but with a turkey baster and a couple squirts, they're back tank side in no time. being aptasia free though is rough for them considering its their main food source. i still see about half of them scouring the tank for remnants or the occasional rogue aptasia so they're obviously reproducing on their own. I'm all about the holistic approach when it comes to my tank. why put a fish in that "might" get them and "might" not pick at corals when the nudis are a proven REEF SAFE option, just need to patiently wait.
