Best ATO for Nano Aquarium?

+1 for this. Got mine for 7 bucks added a 2 buck water bottle and for 9 bucks you have 100% certainty of no over flows and refill every 2 days or so. Easy and no moving parts so no issues waiting to happen.

If you can’t do a gravity fed setup, then there are only two that I would use, Tunze 3155 (I’m still using mine after 7 years) and Avast Marine ATO.

I love my Tunze Nano for my 20 gallon. I have the the water bottle one on my 5 gallon which is great but I’d recommend the Tunze Nano for your size tank.

Hey all, as the title says, what's the best ATO system for a nano tank that won't break the bank?

Currently have a 29 gallon biocube and I'm looking for a decent ATO system for it. I'm trying to find one that has the best anti-flood sensor (of course nothing is fail-proof, but at least I can find the best rated one!).

I did find this one on Amazon, but I'm curious to know your guy's opinions on it.

Any other options that aren't too pricey are very welcome!

+1 for this. I got mine through AliExpress for under AUD$50. They sell in the shops here for $150. Easy set up never had a problem.

I have one on my biocube. I have no idea why people are saying it won't worked for rimmed tanks. It's *meant* for rimmed tanks. Just put this ATO in the pump chamber and call it good.

I think the main thing I'm curious about the Hygger (or any ATO honestly) is if the size of the sensor is going to inhibit how high the water level can be, especially for the biocube. Plus, can I put it in the third back chamber with the pump somehow instead of the tank itself? Get what I'm saying?

Edit: The first link is definitely an ATO, but the second one seems to mainly be for automatic water changes. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but could be useful in the future!

Reef Breeders EXO. Cheap, easy to setup, and reliable. Don't go with the Reef Breeders Prism. That one has the sensor inside the box and it's prone to leakage and failure.

Seems quite a lot of people like the Tunze ones. Might be worth a try at some point despite it possibly breaking the bank a little.

I've been using a "cheaper " ato on my 20g qt for about 6 moths + now with no issues. It's the jbj nano and the optical sensor comes with a cage around it. That's why I got this ato because I kept having issues with the duetto's optical sensor, with air bubbles and snails, I would get errors every once and a while. And ultimately the sensor filled with water outside of the one year warranty.

Allot of people recommend the tunze ato, and so do I, I have two and they are great for me in my larger systems, but this being just a qt and its small size, I didn't think it was quite necessary, but now I'm on my second "nano ato" in 2 years, I could have bought the tunze maybe by now, but the tunze sensor is a bit intrusive in a small tank, I still think this jbj is pretty good for the cost and the footprint it takes up in the tank, if I get a few years out of it that would be make it even better.

Overkill, but I use the Tunze 3155 on my 60 litre (15-gallon). Both the sensors and flow adjustment are capable of supporting that size aquarium. I've got a 25-litre water barrel nearby which I refill once a month.

I got the 3155 because it is considered one of the most reliable ATO systems and I thought I'm likely to upgrade at some point - which I just did by buying a RSR XL 200

I'm pretty sure I literally said that I put mine in the pump chamber rof my biocube a few comments ago

The ATO sensor/float valve should always go in the pump chamber where the water level changes/drops, otherwise, it's pointless to some extent. I used the Tunze 3155 in my Aqua Japan 22g, which had a pretty narrow back chamber. The great thing about the Tunze is the ability to mount the safety float valve on a different magnet than the main sensor mount.

Just took a look at it. Like you said, I like that it has a little cage around it so nothing really messes with it. If I don't use it for my main tank then it'll def be an option for my 10 gallon reef

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The reason I've been hesitant on buying an ATO for so long is mainly because I wasn't sure where to put the sensor. I know that it should be put in the back chamber where the water level lowers/rises, but I have the old biocube and the back isn't clear but painted black. The only "clear" area is on the side where there's a clear strip that shows the water level.

Either I'd have to scrape the paint in the back, or the strip would be enough (not sure about that though..)

There’s no need to scrape the paint off to use an ATO, it would only serve as a visual reference for the water level. I’ve always found it easier to just look from above.
