I'm looking for a skimmer for my new 37 gallon tank. I am downsizing and simplifying. I would like a nice reliable skimmer. Hopefully under 200 dollars. Must be quiet skimmer. It will mostly be softies. I have been doing a lot of research but know my head is spinning. Would it be good to look for a sicce pump? I would lean towards not having the pump in the tank. I have looked at Aquac remora, eshopps, jns, aquamaxx, tunze, hydor, and reef octopus. I just can't decide. Every time I think I have made up my mind I see a bad review.

Ive got the remora with a maxi jet 1200 and have never had an issue with micro bubbles (which is the majority of what I saw for bad reviews) it's pretty quiet..at least in comparison to the CPR Bakpak...it pulls tons of gunk, and as long as you keep your water level up, you wont hear any trickling at all..for a HOB, its a gear piece of equipment im my experience with it..

Oh, and if you simply don't like the look of the pump in the tank, they make an overflow style cover for it which makes it look much more clean..

I have a remora as well with a maxijet 1200. It does the job well.

I'm running the Reef Octopus BH-1000 on my 26g. Can't praise it enough!!
Here's what it pulled out within the first 24hrs, and I just did a 5 1/2g WC at that.

I mean..its not silent, but I don't hear it unless I'm listening for it, or if I turn it off and then back on lol

Remora pro with mag 5 pump totaly awesome. Used it for years now.

Remora is getting a lot of love. Is it loud? Is that reef octo loud? It looks like a beast.

I sit 3" from my tank and it is very quiet :) Big plus is the external pump! No heat transfer to the DT and no pump in the tank taking up much needed room.
Remember your seeing it on a 26g tank, so yeah guess it would look like a beast. It's rated for tanks up to 90g-lol

What about an aquamaxx/jns then. It has an external pump which I like. I keep changing my mind lol I was remora when I woke up, octopus today after talking to the lfs, now I'm looking aquamax, lol

Can't go wrong with any of the choices. Most everyone will agree that the one listed for them is the best.

I'm in the same debate on which hob to get because I don't have a sump. A big thing I hear is that hob skimmers some times over flow and the aquamaxx has an over flow precaution which you might want to consider
