No scratching ?
I don't see why it wouldnt work on glass as well. I haven't scratched my 1" thick acrylic at all since I've gotten it.
You can give them an email/call to inquire about the suitability for the best answer but I will say that the magnets are ultra strong.

Are your tanks now low iron and old wasn't? Just wondering. I feel like my low iron type tanks scratch easier.
Good question. I actually have no idea.

This tank is a Seapora. The Fluval Evo is also scratched. Before that I had a Fluval bow front and it was fine. And before that I don’t remember what it was but it was bought in 2005 and was also fine.

I do know my fluval evo scratched very easy.

I think it depends on which seapora, some low iron and some are not. My tank is a seapora and not scratched but I don't know if it is low iron tbh either... although looking online it seems like it is by the description. I use flipper but over time I find the flipper doesn't work well even with new blades so I am looking for something new.

I don’t know what happened to mag floats. I used them for like 20 years on my freshwater tanks, but now they are scratching my saltwater tanks. I even bought new ones and they still do it. Tried a small and a large. I’m very careful as I hate scratches so I check multiple times to make sure I’m not dragging sand when I clean. I stay away from the sand. The scratches happen towards the top or middle.

I figure it might be caused by very tiny spirobid worm shells that are almost invisible, or the mag float material is too harsh.

In any case, this needs to stop. What are your tips to avoid scratching ? Any particular product better than the rest ?

Thanks !
I think some folks keep the blades and scrapers waaaayyy to long.

I use the Tunze Caremagnets and replace the blade 2-3 times a year as soon as they show any nicks

+ 1 on the Mighty Magnet. Not cheap. Worth every penny though. I have two acrylic tanks but they work great on glass too.

I think we're hearing about scratched glass more in general maybe because of low iron glass. Had tanks my whole life fresh to salt. I didn't start seeing noticeable scratches until I had starfire glass and RedSea Reefer. Now with acrylic I can fix the scratches with the Mighty Magnet kit. My scratches come from the fish though.

I have Tunze coral care. If you use it with fine sand it will pick up the sand on the backside of the plastic blade and drag sand with it. Scratches all over the glass.
you can only move it forward if you clean near the sand.
I really like this new Flipper as you can add your own credit card if you want.

Really like my Magfloat, works great even on curved glass. No scratches on my acrylic tank in 2 years, but I keep it clean. Would buy again

Definitely tunze. Flipper was way too good at scratching tanks with the blade and I had a similar issue with mag floats and their pads getting things between the glass. I went with the strongest tunze with the float attachment and it’s worked great. I expected a plastic scraper to be less effective than the previous metal scrapers, but the tunze has worked great.

Another vote for Mighty Magnet. Definitely not cheap, but offer various options for different types\severity of algae. Mine is actually too strong and I had to purchase a spacer. Could have saved quite a bit by not overdoing it.

It’s not a matter of keeping it clean, at least in my case. It‘s clean and it scratches the glass.

It looks like Mighty Magnet isn’t available in Canada.

I think with any glass cleaner the trick is to keep the cleaner clean and replace blades regularly.

With the Tunze cleaners I replace blades at least twice a year - sooner if there are obvious nicks.

With my Seatorch Titanium which I use for tough growth, I replace the blade after every use as it can cause serious damage if not used carefully.
