Best Peninsula Tank

With your budget I think you could settle on one of the custom builders— their rectangular tanks— then say ‘how much to make it a peninsula?’ Best wishes!

Check out @mfollen build on the Waterbox 7225.

Here is a link to a vid on his, but his build thread is probably a better place to research the tank itself.

I paid @mfollen a socially distant visit this weekend and we did some photography of his amazing waterbox mixed reef. Check out this video below!

Thanks @ScottB !!

for ready to assemble tanks I highly recommend waterbox over Red Sea! I have heard a number of positive reviews on waterbox, and numerous issues with Red Sea builds. Regardless, peninsula tanks are a great to challenge to undertake, but worth it.

What are some aquarium characteristics that you are important to you? A generalization of "best" is a difficult target to advise towards without knowing whats important to you.
Overall build construction. What glass is used, how sturdy the stand is. Is the stand water proof, does it tend to sag over time. Door hinges, the consistent opening and closing, will they wear down prematurely. Warranty is a big deal, especially with this much invested. Customer service, am I going to have to go through a act of Congress to get help. Trying to think of more but I will reply when they come to me.

have you looked into ,joes glass cages?

Never heard of them, I’ll give it a look. If it all comes down to just a tank and diy a stand I’m sure I can manage that as well. I did like the 96.5” planet aquarium peninsula they offer. Half the cost which saves for stand build and some equipment. Only thing, is it’s just glass not low iron of some similarity. I give myself a headache thinking about what to do and how to do it.

check them out

@ReeferJay86, I do love talking tanks! Even if you decide to go with another company or builder. I love help and serve. Great hobby! Have a beautiful day!

Hi! I’m sorry that I don’t have a giant peninsula, but I do have a 20 gallon IM Peninsula, and it’s beautiful. My best friend has a gigantic (300 gallons ish?) custom built peninsula though and has had that thing for like 20 years. The builder was local and we are in Houston (earlier you said corpus was close). Here’s mine :)

That is a beautiful tank. I’m fond of any size tank, I have around 10 tanks currently. Reason I chose a peninsula style is it will create a hallway as soon as you come through the front door. That’s when I put a lot of thought into it. From wall to column it is 93”. It would be a great welcoming walking into my house every day and be greeted by a piece of the ocean. I use that second living area as my “fish room”. There is an archway that opens to 2 side of that area.

Honestly, why not make this a peninsula tank thread. Small or big, if others chiming in can you attach your build link. Some eye candy and a little inspiration for my build.

I’m in the very early stages of planning an 8’ peninsula for a house we are going to build. Very similar idea- walk into the house, and the tank separates the kitchen/dining area from the lounge, in what is a big 40x 20 space.

i use to be local to Glasscages, but moved from Nashville to Atlanta a few years ago. Very sure I’ll be going with a custom from them, and making the trip to go pick it up. Just haven’t figured out specifics yet. But I’m very sure it’s going to be 8’ x 32-36”w x24” deep

Quick quote? Can I pm you here for a ballpark number? Thanks

In case you are considering custom - here is who NOT to use since they can be one of the more affordable options - Custom Aquariums. I don't typically flame a manufacturer - but my cautionary tale about Custom Aquariums is one that I feel obligated to communicate it was so bad, to prevent fellow hobbyists from going through the same thing. And venting is cathartic too! I hired them after a ton of research to build a 400g peninsula tank/stand, and 4 other tanks. They were damaged in transit (their fault, they didn't crate the tanks correctly) and they refused to remake the 400g tank unless I accepted the also damaged stand, that we didn't even know was safe after coming loose in its crate and bouncing around for 2,000 miles and the leg levelers being stripped from the threads. They only cared about the bottom line and not having to pay return shipping to fix the damage - it was pretty stunning. One of the original reasons I chose them was because of their lifetime warranty (if you buy their stand). Considering how impossible it was to work with them on getting their damaged tanks replaced (to your point about needing an act of Congress, LOL) I can only imagine how a warranty claim would go. And in the fine print in their lifetime warranty - you have to ship the tank back to them first and the condition it shows up as will determine the evaluation. So - add the crating, freight costs, and shipping risk to the ridiculousness of their warranty. Good luck there. And then there were the machining marks on the edge of the tank panels, on the main viewing panel, that they said were "normal." This on a $5k tank. Right. I'm sure they have a lot of satisfied customers out there - one of the reasons I chose them. But you don't really get to know a company and its people until things go wrong. They showed their true colors - wow. They finally punted on the entire order I assume because it was cheaper for them to declare it a complete loss, rather than fix their mistake. Had to re-place my tank order with AGE - and they have been great so far - hopefully the tanks turn out ok. Crossing my fingers the tanks arrive ok this time. Peninsula setups are the best, despite some of the challenges...

I have a Red Sea P500 and absolutely love it. I do not have a basis for comparison to other brands (eg, WB), but I can tell you I have not had a minute’s problem with it. Been running for 6 months. Mine is SPS dominant. I also have 3 ReefLED 90’s for lights. Very happy with my set up.
