You get more for your money if you custom built(for large tank 150g+)Most generic tank doesnt have good dimensions for peninsula style. Ideally, the width is best atleast 30” but that’s base on preference of the space given in your home.

This is beautiful - the cantilevered scape is very cool...

thats gorgeous.

Here is a thought. I wish I would have turned my standard 120 so it was a peninsula.
I agree that wider is better as my upgrade will be 36"+.
With that said you can do a standard corner overflow tank and make it a peninsula.
Any single corner overflow would work and save alot of $'s.
A piece of black plexi blocks the overflow on my non peninsula 120.
I could have added alot more corals with a peninsula, lol.

Waterbox has beautiful ready-to-go setups in 24-high and there are many around my area with great things to say about them.

Both Fiji and SC Aquariums will do 72-inch tanks in peninsula style. You just have to ask for the quote.

I don't have the space for a 30-wide peninsula and I'm a big fish guy, so the height is most important to me. I just ordered a custom 220-gal peninsula (72Lx24Wx30H) from Planet Aquariums in Texas. Placed the order through a LFS in Charlotte NC.

My tank was a custom build with 60x21x30” 3/4” thick for 3k i think. You can go with 1/2” thick with euro brace that is a bit cheaper around 1500-1800. All my custom tanks was from planet aquarium. Stand shouldnt cost you more than $500 could be cheaper if you diy. One advice i have is to have a high stand so your tank sit at eyes level. Its the best way to view a peninsula.

Hi! I’m sorry that I don’t have a giant peninsula, but I do have a 20 gallon IM Peninsula, and it’s beautiful. My best friend has a gigantic (300 gallons ish?) custom built peninsula though and has had that thing for like 20 years. The builder was local and we are in Houston (earlier you said corpus was close). Here’s mine :)

Love this tank, reminds me of Drew’s Lagoon YouTube channel.

How long has your tank been up and running? What lighting are you using?

Still going through your build @footgal. I just recently got a 13.5 Fluval Sea Peninsula for my replacement pico tank. I posted it in the AIO sub forum. Early Christmas present. I also have a IM 30 long, had a hard time getting parameters under control. Come to find out it was my RO water that I was getting from the water refill place. It kept bring up my Alk and calcium, took out quite a bit of coral. Now with my BRS RODI system, it’s under control. Corals are looking better and some are starting to recover. Also, I see you have AI primes on your tank. What design are you running?

Two AI Prime HDs, set the tank up Feb 2020. You can learn everything through my build thread!
I just realized my 30 has been set up since March 2020 and doesn’t look half as good as yours

The last 1-2 posts on my build should be the most recent lighting schedule, along with my reasoning behind each setting. I can also post the screenshot of the easy set up if thats easier for you. I believe that starting with good RODI water is crucial to the health of the tank, I'm glad you got your own system! It probably comes out cheaper too, I buy the Fritz reef salt now and I got 2 gigantic boxes for $75 so I believe that's close to 400 gallons (theoretically according to the mixing instructions on the box) which is way cheaper $/gallon than LFS water plus you're in complete control. I absolutely adore the peninsulas and I actually really regret my two lagoon tanks, I feel like they can never be as pretty as the peninsula but only time will tell!

For sure checking out your schedule, I’m on page 3 right now as I’m at work reading through it lol. I’m finally going to choose the waterbox 7725, but it will happen after the new year. I was using fritz blue box as well, I think I’m down to a quarter box now. I decided to go with Tropic Marin Reef Pro as it holds up way better in mixed storage. I agree with you on peninsula tanks, they’re very stunning.

Dont worry, all tanks are gonna grow at different rates. I kinda cheated any way since I have a good friend that has a tank thats about 20 years old. I took rock that had been marinating in his sump for at least 5 years so I completely skipped my cycle and was immediately introduced with a plethora of good bacteria. The downside is that I did get bristleworms, aptaisa, and flatworms using this method but all of those issues were resolved within a month. But, I was able to get a BTA with no issues within a month of setting up the tank, never had an "ugly" stage, and water perams were very stable from the beginning.

I also used exclusively the friend's dirty water for the first 2 months of the tank's life. He did a water change and I simply poured it through a filter sock to take out the detritus before adding it to the tank. People say that this doesn't really help but I'm a believer and I'm pretty sure doing this is what knocked out dinos so fast in my other tank. My 45 lagoon battled some weird white slime that smelled like feet and dinos, both the problems resolved themselves in a month after I started doing water changes using water from my more mature 20 gallon tank. IDK if it's coincidence or cause and effect but I definitely believe it makes a difference!

I also had my friend and my dad to guide me before I found R2R, they've both been in the hobby for 30 years so even though this is my first tank, I already kinda knew what I was doing from helping them maintain their tanks for the last 16 years. My dad was the guy that first started importing and keeping acros in Houston way back in the day when he worked at Fish Ranch. We've still got a copy of The Reef Aquarium series signed by Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung. I've also been diving for the last 6 years in the Red Sea, Caribbean, Florida, California, Hawaii, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Cayman Islands, etc and it's really helped me to see how corals live and grow in their natural environments. So I'm new to reefing, but I've kinda been doing it all my life too. This is just the first tank I'm 100% in charge of which is really cool cause now I can get all the corals that I like.

Yeah I switched from Reef Crystals to Fritz because it was cheaper but I've noticed that Fritz doesnt leave that nasty white film in my mixing tub which is definitely a plus for me. I havent seen any major improvements/regression in the corals so I think theyre about the same. I think I'll stick with Fritz, it seems like a really good salt. Be careful with the Tropic Marin, a lot of people in my local club are having issues getting ahold of it right now but it may just be a supply issue in my area, I dont know
