Best salt atm

Hear nothing but good about Tropic Marin but my all time best is Seachem Salinity followed by AquaForest
I also like Red Sea Coral Pro

Anyone have experience with Red Sea coral pro and fritz rpm? Quite different salts but curious on experiences
Ive used Fritz. It was ok but not for me Superior

What do you like about salinity? I considered that as well as RSCP and fritz pro

I’ve been using Red Sea Coral Pro for years, and have been very happy with it. Has anyone used that and switched to any of the others and, if so, what was your experience with the change?

What do you run your parameters?

Everything in tank popped and I saw colors and polyps I didn’t know existed. Problem for me is now hard to find snd Not cheap in cost

Yeah it’s not cheap but in the end I think the value is similar to the other salts because it is supposed to make 225G at 35. Did you find it consistent in terms of parameters? Does it take long to mix? Does it leave sludge?

Leaves no sludge and dissolves easily. Parameters Very good

ESV and it's not close for me these days.

Fritz sucks and is super low quality. IO and IORC is inconsistent and dirty. Red Sea blue bucket might be the dirtiest salt I've used (Reef Crystals might be slightly ahead in the residue.)

If you want clean and consistent, ESV beats anything else by a mile. If you want closer to ESV with less cost, then go with Tropic Marin or Brightwell Aquatics.

This is for you guys struggling with keeping your corals alive. Keep it simple and go with instant ocean salt and dose esv two part. These two companies have been in the industry for a very long time.

If you want what I consider to be the best then I use Quantums SPS probiotic salt it's great every pack is the same as the previous and good quality with the quality to match.

That’s where your wrong brotha! Salt is the biggest factor!!! Lack of trace or too much of and it’s going to show in sticks. I promise you

Just like amino acids, reef roids, snake oil of the week? You can take any salt on that BRS list (along with many others) and produce identical results [without adding other crap to it].

Just curious if anyone else uses the HW reefer salt?? I’m loving it so far but only been using it for about 2 months now .....

I’ve been using Red Sea blue bucket from the start, really no complaints and see no reason to change salt.

ESV, Brightwell, Tropic Marin are nice expensive salts but locally I can only get:

RS Blue Bucket
RSCP
DD H2O
IORC
IO
Kent Marine
Fritz RPM
Seachem Aquavitro Salinity

Bumping up magnesium! Only magnesium?
A test of salt mixes available in EU. https://reefhub.pl/test-of-marine-salts/
If it is about a new setup for a mixed reef it may not matter much as all commercial salt mixes are good. As cycling a new system and installing diversity needs a lot of nutrients there is no salt mix available on the market which has to much of them. When one has the availability of good tap water this can be used for a new setup. Taking in account what is added by introducing real " live " rock!

As SPS is the goal probably one wants to see bright and fluorescent colours and is cycling nutrients not part of the setup. A mixed reef with SPS showing natural colours is still a challenge , one may struggle cycling and exporting nutrients in a balanced way. Opt for a very low nutrient system for keeping SPS is a choice. If that option is taken, maybe it is best not to use any so called "life" rock as it will compete with the coral holobiont. Setting up a new aquarium for SPS only, one may consider not to use any "live" rock and use the coral holobiont as a base for introducing the diversity needed with minimal competition certainly when captive cultured corals are used, cultured in other stable conditions as available in nature. They may not be able to compete with natural diversity.
When setting up a VLNS for SPS, based on an effective skimmer, one will end up with an unbalance in the nutrient supply sooner or later if one does not take any precautions , no matter what salt mix is used, as a skimmer constantly removes nutrients and TOC very selective. If a phosphate absorber is used one must be aware it does not only absorb phosphate.
The salt mix used for water changes may be determinative for keeping up the balance and as most if not all commercial salt mixes try to be an imitation of natural seawater this balance will not be restored without intervention.
My opinion, it does not matter what salt mix is used as most commercial salt mixes are of very good quality, as long it is known what is in it.- exactly.
I do not believe in so called " probiotic " salt mixes. If they have an influence on the coral holobiont, the effect is not known! It may as well be "contrabiotic".
We prefer "Colombo", a Dutch brand, because it is low in sulphate. As most SPS keepers do not use any bio-filters it does not matter.

Regular old IO. I dose it up, and dose it down due to high alk. Good enough for Jason Fox.

Another salt thread, lol. Just what we need.
I do understand however, why this is an important and recurring topic, so I'm really not criticizing.

That said, over the years I've probably used salt mix mentioned along with a few nobody has mentioned. And whenever I've changed to a new mix, I've always used it exclusively for at least 8-9 months to really get a good feel for how well it works for my tanks. Hands down, the best salt I've ever used is ESV. But the cost was high, and when I was no longer able to get it in anything larger than 100g units, I switched to Fritz RPM. The Fritz is the second best mix I've used. It is extremely consistent from batch to batch, and always very close to the published parameters. It mixes clean with no sediment or residue. I'm very pleased with it since switching to it about 18 months ago.

IO and Reef Crystal are by far the worst I ever used. They are cheap (especially IO) for a reason. Never again for me.
