Everybody has a different opinion as to which salt is the best and why.

My suggestion is to look around at the different salts and get one that fits your budget and needs. Knowing which salt is the "best" won't do you any good if you can't afford it.

I personally like Coral Pro Salt the best for my application and uses. Does that make it the worlds BEST? No......it's a matter of opinion and results but you can't go wrong with Red Sea!

I was looking at using red

I was looking at Red Sea salt as new to hobbie don't want to cut corners

I like to use HW maine mix. The levels for ca, mg, and alk it mixes to is ideal for where I like to keep my tank. I think it also had amino acids in the salt if I'm not mistaken

HW or Aquaforest. I am personally switching from RedSea to Aquaforest

I switched from Red Sea Pro to HW Marinemix. My mixing container no longer turns brown.

It's salt.....
The claims made by competing brands are little more than marketing schemes.
Just find a salt that mixes up with the levels you want, and at a price you're willing to pay.
Successful reef tanks have been kept with every major brand of salt.

Not sure what are the best salts, but I tell you this.... I used RSCP when I started 2 years ago.... It was a constant problem with ALK. Lost Hundreds of $$$$ in corals bleaching and melting. I switched to RC, and my tank looks like its on steroids now. Corals are growing super fast, no ALK problems, Im saving money, and Im happy. Not saying red sea is a bad salt. Good luck

Not saying Red Sea is a bad salt? Really? Sounds like that's exactly what you're saying.

You are right! I guess it does sound I am! I guess I am!! Lots of people have sucsses with this salt. I didnt! And some had the same Problem as mine. Its weird! The OP ask whats the best salt, And Im just saying what happened to me. My problem was the red sea salt. Not my lights, not my water or anything else.

My vote is for Salinity salt mix. Mix clear and fast and comes with a label on the bucket for the values.

I use tropic Marin bio actif it mixes clean and has a carbon source mixed in for nitrates just roll the heck out of the bucket to mix good and don't store once mixed for to long. It's pretty expensive compared to most salts
