Hey everybody! Finally starting to pull over all the information from my threads at Nano-reef.

What I'm going for is a bommie-style reef. One big rock in the center that has SPS on it, and then smaller rocks around the rest of the tank that have zoas, acans, my anemones (for now, some of those will be moved to another tank soon), and some LPS will be scattered around, along with the clam.

Display tank:
  • 48"x24"x16" Deep Blue Pro 80g rimless frag tank w/ corner overflow
Stand:
  • Custom built 60"x32"x40"
Sump:
  • 20g long 24"x12"x16"
  • Will be a slow-flow fuge with chaeto & a pod farm
  • ~265GPH return pump (after head of lifting four feet to the DT)
Skimmer:
  • ebay SC-65 (these things rock!)
Lighting:

  • 6x 660nm deep red Luxeon Rebel ES @700ma
  • 6x 490-505nm cyan Luxeon Rebel ES @1000ma
  • 7x 475nm cool blue @ 700ma
  • Drivers are Steve's LEDs custom drivers
  • Controller will be Reef Angel, custom Arduino programming with full sunrise/sunset, cloud cover, and lightning storms
  • custom aluminum heatsinks from Heatsink USA
  • Will be hung 16-20" above the water line

Things to do:
Tank will be picked up tomorrow (5/11/12)
Stand is almost finished; just need to take the doors off, paint the crap out of everything (stand is primed right now), attach the glass tile to the doors, get it to my house (built at my parents' house), and put the doors back on
Start mixing water
Start rinsing sand
Get sump set up, baffles siliconed into place, and plumbed
Make mounting system and "canopy" for lights, and place on a rail system for easy movement.
Start moving stuff over!

My violets look like garbage after being removed from heatsinks twice now and having the thermal adhesive Dremel'd off of them, but **** do they still work great. :)

Royal blue

Tried to catch some of the hint of purple that these things throw out, but my phone just won't. I don't think that the purple is overbearing or even bad - I love it, personally.

That's all I can remember for now. Enjoy!

Looks like you are off to a great start, look foward to following the progress of your tank.

Great start..looking forward to seeing your LEDs finished

Ok, LEDs are all together!

They are BRIGHT and look amazing over my 55g (a little dark on the corners, but the layout was not designed for being hung so low, just temporary). The ratio of 2:3:1:1:1:2 of NW:RB:CB:C:DR:V is PERFECT for a 12-14K look without any dimming. Colors are outstanding, significantly better than my old Bridgelux Aquastyle array. The cool blue I got from LEDgroupbuy is actually pretty close in color to the Aquastyle BL royal blues.... hmmm.

Went to pick up the tank on last Friday, even though I don't have the stand finished still (it keeps raining, so I'm not always able to work on it after work), but when I got to the LFS, they had gotten the rimmed tank instead of rimless, so they had to order another one. The new one should have gotten there yesterday, but I won't be heading that way until Friday, it's a 45 minute drive to get there. I will try and get the stand done tonight (finishing painting and removing the doors to add the tile and trim) so that we can get it to my house ASAP. This needs to happen soon! I can't wait!

You're chompin' at the bit, I'm sure. Can't wait to see how it all comes together!!

I am excited to see this on come together! Keep us updated!

wow, gonna follow this along since im in the process of tearing down my 210 and doing the exact same tank with diy led's also.

The bit is long gone, chomped through it a long time ago! :D

Definitely. :)

Cool! Let me know if you need any help with the LEDs. Luxeon Rebels are the best!

Forgot to mention that I got a new pretty at the FMAS frag show this past weekend. :)

It may not be as gorgeous as my last long tentacle plate, but I think think she's very pretty.

I've got a TON to add to this. Tank is up and running (fishless, ich infestation, fish are in QT until September 1st), got a bunch of new corals, I burned out a few LEDs accidentally (bridged connections for the win!), lost some fishies, got some new ones, and had one jump HOURS before I left for vacation on Monday. :(

I will return home on Monday of next week (and hopefully making a trip to Worldwide Corals in Orlando on my way back!!!), and I will try to move some of the info over to here. Can't leave you guys (and gals ;) ) all hanging. :)

Thanks mate looking forward to seeing some updated pics. Sorry to hear about fish tragedies. Other than bunt bulbs how are you liking them luxeons? I plan to use them for my next DIY build.

More output than Cree, better spectrum, cheaper, and can handle more heat. I love them. :)

I had Steve order a bunch of 3up stars, so he's making a LOT of 3ups - some that have 1 NW and 2 RB, and some that have 1 deep red, 1 cool blue, and 1 cyan. Will be much better than the competition. ;)

This thread needs a major update. Tank is up, livestock is in and growing, I've lost a lot, gained a lot, changed the lighting, changed the sump, all kinds of good stuff!

In the meantime, I'll leave you with this:

:)

what did you change the lighting too? was the old one too bright?

Nah, I just changed everything over to using nearly all Luxeon Rebels (instead of a mix of Bridgelux and Luxeon) with only the violet being SemiLED. I also switched them all to 3up stars. Color is flippin' amazing, but I'm gonna throw on another 8x RB Luxeons so I can get a higher color temperature, right now it's about 14K at 100% on all channels. I'll try and post my pics soon. :)

Great looking clams!!! I would love to see a FTS!!! :)
