Cut a sheet of 1/4" HDPE to fit the tank bottom. Didn't seal it in place, just set it there, put the live rock on top of it. Been that way for over a year now, no problems.I agree.
For bare bottom how do you make sure the glass doesn’t crack?
I'd just make sure to keep it very well fed in the QT since he won't have sand to go through. They have a high metabolic rate and a voracious appetite and need fed numerous times a day WITH a sandbed. So, while in a QT without sand, definitely feed quite a bit. I have a bicolor goatfish and he has so far been a model citizen.(I did not QT) Hasn't touched any CuC or any of my smaller fish, however, he is still a little guy so that could very well change in the future though I doubt I'll have smaller fish by then. My melanurus does not like him and chases him a little but there's no issue aside from that. He is a worm eating machine as well. Thanks for the information on the goatfish. I guess QT is more for medication but so I may just have them separated first for observation to make sure things are okay before I submerge in my DT. So it would seem that a week or so would not hurt if no sand is there for them. Mandarin is also on my list but that is a different topic. hahaha
