Big Bangs, a myth?

I don't think they melt away, though inevitably some do, just as any other zoa, but more so in general I don't think anyone tries to market them or photograph them...they're too busy taking pics of flaming orange this, purple galaxy that, and Taiwanese mystery abyss zoas.

I've got a few miscellaneous Protopalys here in my tank with some nice, delicate colors that I'm watching to see what they do. Maybe in a bit I'll take some pics for ya.

That is true about colors. While I can appreciate boldness, sometimes those colors need delicate colors for contrast. That would be sweet if I can check those out....

No argument from me. See, I come from a freshwater background, and my main focus for a long time has been dwarf cichlids. Many of them have incredible, but very delicate colors. They don't jump out and smack you, which fails to attract many people's attention, but to those few who get into them, they are stunning. We're often accused of spending way too much money on tiny, brown fish...but you just gotta let the light hit 'em right. :nerd:

I have the Protopalys because they did catch my eye. I decided to scrape them off the zoa rocks and bring them home. Most people, though, would not have noticed them, and would almost certainly not have bought the rock for them.

Some of my prettiest morphs have developed from browned-out turds. When I got them they're about the color of mud and within a few months, wa-lahhh! Ultra Zoanthid! Most have potential you just have to give them a chance......

RaddReef319 - I got them from Pookstreet which is the person that had the mother colony melt. I do not know of a single person that still has any alive.

Never seen any myself. The Ultimate Warrior and Desert Storm are two that I would really like to see. I never hear anyone talking about them either.

I've never seen them in anyones system. A company in San Diego called AquaSD had some ultimate warriors, but they sold out as fast as they were posted, unfortunately I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Alot of places call palythoas desert storms but I've never seen "real" ones for sale.

I agree. I've had these in my system for years. Huge potential for morphing as you can see even in this one colony.

If THIS is what browned out turds turn into I am not buying anything else!!!!

I have had this happen too! Its nice when it does work out. ;)

But, I've never actually seen someone post pictures of them in their system. I just doubt that anyone houses them in their own aquarium.
Do you know how many people never post pictures of their systems, and even moreso how many people don't even post on forums?

Some of the best reef tanks I've seen in person would put most RC TOTMs to shame...

Wow, your turd is gorgeous! Those are really pretty. That's true stunreefer, I have seen very nice systems that are not posted. Some are probably a little hesitant to post thinking they'll get bombarded with WTT or WTB offers.

I've never seen them offered anywhere, that's cool! It's too bad there are other reefers out there that like awesome corals and feel the need to get them before the rest of us :)

I actually spoke at length in the past with the namer of the *******. His whole colony didn't melt but was in fact eaten by one of his fish. A travesty if you ask me. I don't think I could have kept a fish that destroyed such a gem. I think fish have a tendency to eat the brightest colored zoas/palys. He said he never shared any frags and was always on the look-out for the equal. Unfortunately I think he is currently taking some time away from the hobby but he did have quite the collection back in the day.
