BIOCUBE CALLOUT!!

Hi all! May I ask what stands are you using to support your bc29? Anyone modify the stock stand and find it to well worth it? I would like to put larger feet on the stock stand to raise it up off the ground some but am not sure the stand could take the stress. Thank you!! ~Lindsey (complete noob to this hobby!)
The stand for the bc 29 that I have was custom made. It's similar to the regular stands that come with the tanks but it has a granite top that is a little wider than the original stands. It was also painted black with a semi gloss coat and has different trim.
There are several reasons that make the custom stand for the bc that I have worth it. It's really up to what you want and need out of any tank and stand as to rather or not the extra effort and cost is worth it.

I'm using the stock coralife stand. I also think that it is to short. If I could go back I would have taken the time to build my own stand.

Agreed, I have the stock stand and I am looking to modify it a bit since it is so short. I think I will replace the stock feet with larger furniture bun feet. I saw a few pictures somewhere of a modified stand with tall metal feet that raised the stand 6 inches or so. I loved the look but I don't know if the stand has the structural integrity for the relatively small contact area those feet provided.

I like the stand. The height works out great for me. Tanks sits next to sofa and that puts it at perfect eye level for viewing. I also added one of the oxy LED lights under the cabinet. So when you open the door and the light comes on.

Ohh that's a great idea! I was considering moving it to a better sitting area (even though it's not populated as often as the family room) and the more I consider it the more convinced I am that it would be a wise move. Did anyone put styrofoam or cork in between the tank and stand? Is it necessary? Thanks so much for your help! I feel like such a bozo with this but I don't want to risk a dumb move. ;)

No need for cork or styrofoam.

Hey guys. Posting an update on my biocube 29. Tank just over a month old. Running stock pump and lighting right now. 2 circulation pumps on a controller. Just added 3 clowns and an anemone.

I believe when in groups of three as they mature
One will become female, Then two will mate and become very hostile to the 3rd to the point of possible killing him. Since they are young now you have time but especially with an anemone in such small quarters territory will become a problem.

My uncle has 220 gallon and had two pairs of clowns They were fine when they could defend each other, but one unfortunately passed away and now the 3rd one never leaves the safety of the rocks. You may need to return him soon!

Good luck!

Here's my 9 month old BC29 with DSB, Steves LEDs, InTank media basket, Tunze 9002 skimmer, GFO running in an Eheim canister, kalk top off, BRS 2 part dosing. This tank got off to a rough start - I had an undetected phosphate issue with my supply water, so for the first 4 months, I was basically battling algae. I feel like it's just starting to get good and I'm excited to see where it goes. It's a mixed reef (LPS, SPS, softies) with 1 fish at this point (cherub angel).

Here is my Oceanic BC29 with a Nanobox LED retrofit. The tank has been up and running for just about 4 months. I just began stocking coral a little over week ago. The front rock is my Acan garden. The two side rocks will have more flowing wavy LPS and the center top rock will eventually be populated with SPS.

Oh by the way, my rocks aren't really that florescent green. On my Nanobox LEDs, I have my white / lime channel turned all the way up and my blue, cyan and UV channels turned way down in order to take better photos with my cellphone. For some reason, it makes my rocks look highlighter yellowish green.
You still have quite the algea bloom going on there...how's it looking now?

Much better now. I did an H2O2 scrub on all the rocks about a month ago and have been running GFO in a reactor... so far so good! Currently NO3 is at 2, PO4 at 0, Ca at 440, Alk at 8.4 and Mg at 1360. Picked up a bunch of SPS frags from Reefers Garage and at Reef A Palooza NY. I've since moved some of the Acans around to make room for the SPS. My new frag additions include a trumpet, a. tenuis, deepwater acro, purple stylo, setosa, birdsnest, millepora and m. digitata. Now I'm in maintenance and testing mode. Here is a current FTS...
