Is this normal for bird wrasse if not what could this be. It has a weird tube on the top fin of him.

No offense, but That’s because you haven’t got a clue what you’re doing yet you keep moving forward

Maybe hit pause, setup a quarantine tank, learn before you buy, and when you do purchase a fish, relax a little(for the fishes sake)

i asked if I should put medication like prazi pro as a preventitive for flukes and so on but didn’t hear if I should or not. Also I had just done hyposalinity for months to try and cure the disease before as recommended by others on here. I Might “not have a clue what I’m doing” but that’s the whole reason why I’m asking the professionals on here

I was gonna quarintine but the biggest qt I could do is a 25 gallon and Jay said on my other thread that a 4” wrasse would need atleast a 30 gallon. My lfs said that he wouldn’t bother with quarantining either.

My wrasse is not like yours, but if it helps you any my six line stayed in the sand near the entrance of a cave for 1 week before he even moved. Would just sit there and nibble on foods that came to him. I would not medicate at this time give the little guy room and let him see all of his new surroundings and get used to the new environment. Keep the lights low for a few days then back to normal schedule keep an eye on him still.

I was thinking prazi just in case of flukes or worms because i couldn’t quarintine.

Also I was thinking of dosing prazi pro as a preventative. Would you reccomend that or should I wait until I see a real problem.
I would have recommended that you follow the quarantine protocol here - but - since you didn't - I would not dose something unless there was a problem

Well hypo salinity does not cure disease (for example velvet is not affected) - I am not saying you have no clue - but - it does seem like you want the 'professionals' to agree with your plan. I, as one of those, do not. However, given where you are at now - I would not necessarily do anything differently. Speaking only to the tube on the fin - there is nothing I would do about that.

He is eating very well now flakes and brine shrimp.
Never saw a problem with the fish. This fish will eat bristleworms which to me is a Plus. Feed it LRS fish frenzy, chopped shrimp and scallop from the seafood dept and frozen krill

Oh yeah he did eat reef frenzy earlier. I soak everything I feed in selcon for Hufas.

Ok thank you very much I’m bringing him back home do you think I should freshwater dip him or not . The guy said I probably shouldn’t.
I would not unless you have a suspect cause to do one. Often it can stress or cause distress to a given fish

Just a little update I did a prazi pro dosage 3 times about 6 days apart at recommended dosage. He is doing perfect and eating like a champ! I did the prazi because I saw a little bit of yawning and maybe some flashing which both I heard could be normal for wrasse.
