Birmingham get together

First thing on the agenda should be to come up with your own club name since you guys hate it so much. Your in the BARF forum crapping on the name and disrespecting the guys that came up with it. We have guys in the club who have accounts with distributors. They order coral, fish and dry goods a couple times a month or more frequent if need be. There are still a few of us around and we're constantly at each others house maintaining, troubleshooting, building and helping each other with our tanks. We all like the BARF name and since we're the original active members it will stay that way. Talk to the forum owner here and have them make you a sub forum with any name you want. The BARF club name WILL NOT be changed.

No need to be rude. As a newer reefer barf is not a good name. It doesn't make me want to go put a window decal on my truck that says" proud member of barf. "

My suggestion is to change it but if y'all don't wanna change it then my one voice doesn't matter much.

I have no issues with anyone here I was just putting in my .02

David

Our point is you are a new member and one that hasn't ever been part of our group until now. We have been together since 2005 and we love that you are into this but we are already a club with a name. You are more than welcome to be part of it and get together and make it as active as you want but I wouldn't come into something that already exists and start changing it when you are somebody who has not even met are done anything with the people who started it.. We had a different name and we changed it on my porch to barf with a slogan.. The rest of the members agree and will be posting on here about this today also

It was not my intention to be rude. Your the one being rude. You don't think BARF is a good name then start your own club. Your entitled to your opinion and it doesn't bother me that you don't like the name. But don't come on the BARF forum, say you don't like it and want to change it. That doesn't come off rude to you?

The name will stay the same.!!!! There isn't as much activity on here but that doesn't mean that the name need to change. There are a good bit of us like previously stated that still get together and do things from sharing frags to going to each others homes and helping with issues, new equipment or just to drink a beer and have a good time. I not the other members have a problem with you guys starting a new club. Just don't think stepping on anybodies toes is appropriate.. If you guys ever would like to come see some outstanding existing tanks like mine or some of the others feel free to come check them out. You can see mine as the spotlight tank from October. Also, as far as "strict rules" that's just insane. A lot of us are grown men and have families and children and may not be able to show at certain get togethers for certain reasons which is perfectly understandable. Just my two cents.

Thanks, markie mark.

I'm sorry but I can't think of anything less important than a name. I just wanted to have some people over that are into saltwater. This gathering has nothing to do with the Birmingham area reef fanatics. I just thought it'd be nice to socialize and avoid shipping charges. There's been talk of a gathering and since I've got space, time, and am centrally located I'd go ahead and try to set an actual date.

I hear ya. Well go for it dude. We will be having one on the 17th of march now. Not to be rude, just to do what everybody is asking. So I guess all the normal barf people will be coming out. Hope yours works out well also. If you change your mind then let us know.

Just spoke with a few people that said they aren't wanting to do at it some bar, they would rather have the gathering at a place where there's a tank to look at. I'm still working on who's coming as of now Paul and Eddie.

Liquid360, we want to see all of the new people attend and be part of it. all the excitement from All of you new guys is great.. Hosting a meeting and having new tanks and people to see would be great so we will put a group gathering together come hang out eat some good food, meet the guys and feel free to come up with and have a get together anywhere you want..

But you say name is the least of your concern but from the post that yall started the first agenda at your meeting is to come up with a new name.. And our point is your free to do anything you like start your own, just hang with reef buddies, be part of our already established group what ever but our group already exists and the members like the name..

Hey guys. I didn't mean to step on any toes. I have been in reefing about three years and haven't heard of local get together a for any of many different reasons. I did not know the club was well established and had active get togethers. If y'all would allow me to be an active part I would like to be a member.

And as said before I didn't mean any harm.

One of the things on the agenda should be a possible change of name. Birmingham Area Reef Fanatics (BARF) may be hard to promote.

Here is one

David, we would love for you to be.. A lot of good people, tanks and advice.. When you meet some of us you will see that clubs and groups wouldn't usually be my thing but through all this I gave net some great people and had a good time car pooling around

Also many of you may know me or recognize me. I used to work at aquarium fantasies. (Left for a few reasons) and I may know many of you if you have shopped there or more recently at reef life aquariums. (I don't work there)

Thanks. I know of a few people that want to be part of a club here locally.

(Lil about me ) I am 24 married with a daughter on the way (June 7). Got started into reefing by a good friend of mine and love it. My wife likes watching the tanks and fish but won't touch anything in them(more scared of pallys and bristle worms).

Anyway I can answer many questions you may have for me. All ya gotta do is ask me.

David

No being "member" just getting together whenever we can and Doing what we do. This isn't some strict group like a Masonic lodge, we all just get together these days a kick it. We have all wound up with each others numbers over the years and we just call and text each other all the time. Me, Paul and Eddie stay on the phones talking noise about the hobby. Buddy Alan, Alabama reef just walked out the door a second ago. With me doing the coral/fish thing from the house I wind up knowing everybody. Love this hobby and been it for around 13 years now. Once again, anybody that would like to come out feel free or if any of you guys wanna go a different route go for it.

March 17. Please come, more then welcome. Lets try to organize what we are talking about here and move it all to the Barr meeting post so we are Ll on the same page.

I understand the frustration off the bat dissin our name. That is all we are not about a few years ago Paul and myself went to other clubs meeting and wanted a way more laid back club. No fees or rules life is difficult enough without more rules and expense especially in this hobby. BARF "our frags will make you sick" is how we came up with that and how many ways can you put bham and reef club in an order and make it spell something catchy. Just my experience ... Rule 1 don't tell anyone your in a fish club you will be explaining that s@#t to people who won't understand. So if you want to hangout and talk about fish it normally helps to be looking at fish. Look forward to seeing all of you at marks.
