I bought two convicts two weeks ago and the bigger one has developed a darkened area at the belly. It looks like wrinkled skin. The other one does not have this problem. It eats great and appear to be gaining weight. The area has been expanding but seems to have stabilized in the last couple of days. It seems something internal not superficial. The belly is quite full but can still see the wrinkle. Any ideas?

Looks a lot like Hypermelanization, stings from corals.

Good call Kevin! I should have included the Reef Squad when I did the original call out.

Just behind the gill in the center you can almost see the fishes bones. Even in the picture. It is super skinny. Mine was too it is a convict thing. They need to eat a ton. It will fatten up if it lives. Keep feeding as much as you can to fatten him up. Keeping water quality will be your struggle. Good luck. I'll see if I can grab a quick pic of my fatty before I'm off to work...

Ah the black I couldn't see it at first. I'm at a loss for that but I have seen it on aquarium store fish.

Is it like that on both sides?

The symptom is on both side. When I had the fish in day 2 to day 4 there is a small acne almost like mosquitos bite with raise skin in the same area. It went away but the skin began to darken. I did not use any medicine and the fish are very well. The qt had salinity matched to the bag water and slowly raised to match the DT in 3 days. The other small one does not have this problem at all. The fish is totally fine except this. This is very infrequent flashing at the beginning but I almost don't see it anymore.

My advice would be to QT and treat with a mild antibiotic, such as Kanaplex. Might be overkill, but if this is a bacterial infection those can quickly spiral out of control.

Well I see yall have already handled this one, but for what it's worth, my first thought was infection. So antibiotics would be needed. Of course, you've already gotten there. lol I just had to work today and missed out! :D

I came home today the fish looks better. Symptom have lessened and the dark area is lighter. Although the skin is still wrinkled. The picture below makes it look better than it is. Still the fish eat like a pig.
