Black & White fish suggestions for 40 gallon

Don't say reef, so I vote for one of the butterflies. I personally like the look of black pearlscales

but a pearscale in a 40G though?

Well he's considering angels so guessing he has a maturity plan in place. There are smaller black and white butterflies too

While I like those guys, a pair would be a bit much for a 40 (which is effectively a 35 gallon only). And they have the same issue as the eels: too snake-like.

I had those in there before - they ultimately killed each other.

I know. A pair of Black Leopard Wrasse, Macropharyngodon negrosensis.
On the smaller size for Leopard Wrasse. LA suggest 90 gal, but I think they will be fine in a 40 gal with the clowns. Need a Deep sand bed so maybe a taller tank, 65 gal would be better if you give them 3 inches sand.

They are black and white only iridescent blue green when the light catch it just right. Here is LA picture
