Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse

Good-looking wrasse! Definitely get a bit of netting or something. I lost 3 fish recently due to them jumping through egg crate, so don't trust those holes until you get smaller mesh of some kind. I am now the proud owner of an acrylic mesh lid.

He seemed really friendly at the store. Kept going to the glass when I walked by.

He is super super fast... I just opened the door to the room to look at him for the first time today and watched him nearly head butt two fish turn and hit the other side of the tank then fly around behind a rock in what seemed like 2 seconds.

I'll look at meshes tonight.

@mdbannister i just saw you are from Ontario. We went there looking at Global Aquatics and Pet Supplies store. Didn't see anything specific and went through to Rancho Cucamonga where we picked this up at. A few saltwater places out that way.

I didn't have a net on top of my tank and a couple weeks ago my wrasse jumped out and I had a 5 gallon bucket of rodi water for my ato next to the tank and the lid wasn't on it, I woke up and saw my wrasse laying on the bottom of the bucket. I quickly picked the fish up and tossed him in the tank and somehow the fish survived. I made sure to get a top on asap

I can't believe it. My wrasse just jumped out of the tank. That sucker got about 2' into the air. I removed the mesh half way to add a new frag and this little fellow goes flying out right as I stick my hand in. He sounded like a streamer. He fell (thankfully) on my chaeto. Well.. he may have hit the wall first I have no idea.

All I have to say is it isn't as far to the floor as if he shot forward.

Today is a sad day. I think he is gone. I didn't see him yesterday, I figured he was hiding. Today I picked up the rocks to see if he actually was hiding.. nothing. My guess is he jumped out when I was floating some inverts to add to the tank.

Well.. the tank looks better without a lid anyways :/

Well one would think you could see him on the floor. Wrasse hide in the sand and can hide for days...I had a velvet outbreak a year and a half ago. Wiped out my entire 300g tank of fish; I had a melanarus wrasse that I assumed was dead. I blacked out the tank for 3 months, no food no nothing because all my fish were dead and I was getting rid of the post die off algae. I was re-arranging the rock work and he zoomed past me, this was after a 3 month blackout with NO food and NO water change. He was fatter and bigger than ever, must have been feeding off random pests and snails..scared the living crap out of me.

Recently, I had another crash (self inflicted flatworm mishap) and he again was the LONE survivor. I love this fish to death!

But fairy wrasses don't bury.

Have you checked the overflow.

I haven't found him on the floor either.. so at this point I consider him gone but still have the lid on just incase.

Do you have cats or dogs that could have eaten him off the floor? Also, have you checked your filter? He HAS to be somewhere. You may have a dried up fish behind the cabinet between the wall...

It's not easy to check behind some of this stuff without moving one of the fish tanks.

Yes I have a cat who walks in that room but I have never been able to feed him fish (hehehe).
