This is "Little Buddy"

I haven't been flamed since moving from another forum so I really don't know how this forum will react. We shall see...

Turn your captions and HD on!!!

very nice...any other fish in the tank with this little guy? i have had 2 in the past and both were very "jumpy" (no pun intended) and nervous fish. one actually did jump out of a tiny hole by the overflow.

That's a gorgeous fish! Now I really want one. How did you build his home? What size and how much PVC did you use?

Thanks for the compliments guys and gals! I built his home using 3/4 inch pvc.... there are 3 entrances and are all interconnected below. I wasn't sure if I should build a small box underneath out of acrylic and eventually decided against it because of the trapping of food and poop. No tankmates right now. Maybe next month ill put in a cardinal or seahorse but that'll be it. I don't want him to get bored and it'll give him something to look at.

Very, very cool. I only have about a 2 inch sand bed, but this is a great idea. I may just have to do this. One of the prettiest fish in the hobby for sure.

fish looks happy and healthy, what were you getting flamed for, the PVC? did you mean another forum on R2R or a whole other site?

Every time I see a BSJ it just makes me more impatient for getting one. I love his home! I may have to do something like that. Very nice.

a buddy of mine used to get pearlies a 1/2 dozen at a time from a wholesaler friend of ours and he used a bunch of PVC tubes in the qt tank and they loved them so much he just added some pvc partially buried in the display, his tank is on here too i belive its a 125 inwall tank.

What did you use to make the PVC look like sand?

Probably because it is in such a small tank. But why does it matter? The fish doesn't even move. ;)

i was thinking the same thing, its not like its a pelagic fish, i had a large watchman and a pistol in a 10 gallon for a while until i could afford to get my other tank up and running and he was just as fat and happy as ever.

Thank you again! I keep him at a cool 72-76 degrees. Apparently the fish is used to 90 foot waters where it is very cool. Oddly enough he doesn't play with any of the rubble that I put in there. Probably because he doesn't dig anything. I have had him for about a month or so.

Exactly my thoughts. RC would have torn me apart. Minimum 6-8 inch sandbed with a 29g displacement. This guy watches me at my desk and watches the dogs run around. He gets fed everyday and doesn't compete for food. He pops in and out of the holes... gets a waterchange once a week. Has all of the rubble a fish could ask for. That's why I think id like to get a cardinal or something that barely moves just so he can have some more entertainment.

Here is an example:

"I am thinking about building a Nano tank, a Innovative Marine Nuvo Nano 8g, featuring a Blue Spot Jaw Fish. The tanks useable footprint is approx 11.5"w x 8.5" d x 12"h.
It has a usable "Sump Section" at 11.5"w x 3.0"d x12"h."

Response:

"
Way-way too small tank for a jawfish of any kind...especially a Blue Spot. I'm don't think I would even put a pj cardinal in a small nano."

"
+1 on that tank being too small! You really need a min. of 5-6 inches of sand for a bluespot (or any jawfish) and that would only leave about 6" of water above the sandbed... not much room for a fish that gets to 6"+ and tends to hover virtically in the water column. There isn't enough horizontal realestate either."

"
Too small for a yellow head jawfish too. These fish grow to be pretty big. They need room to exercise & hunt food. They are also jumpers. I don't think the necessary water perimeters are stable enough in a nano. The fish poo alone would foul the tank rapidly. Hopefully some of the men with lots of experience can give you more reasons why it won't work. Maybe consider a small gobie, although any of the sandsifter types will out grow a small nano eventually."

Just couldn't handle it.

If you think thats flaming you have a long way to go.. You asked for opinions and you got them.

I still think a 2 gallon spec (which is what that looks like) is way to small for a jawfish, he probably isn't moving rubble because he doesn't have any room to. I think if you research putting seahorse in there is a worse idea because of disease.

The flip side is you asked for opinions, feel like you're getting flamed and then do what you want anyway so again I ask whats the point
