Blue tang has bad white spots

Just make sure you don't use the same equipment in quarantine and dt and nothing wet is transferred between them.

Even the siphon hose and bucket can never be used on the DT again am i right ?

You can use it again, just make sure it is dry for at least 24 hours, the more the better. You can also disinfect it by vinegar or bleach as an extra measure, but you will need that to dry too.

So the myaxin bath is that done with just plain RO or with saltwater from the QT which has CP in it still ?

Its done with salt water, better with salt water that does not contain medication, as mixing medications usually does not end well, but ill leave it for the experts to see if it can be mixed with CP.

I would use freshly mixed SW for the bath. The 3 chemicals Myxazin contains are fine with copper, but I've never mixed any of them with CP.

So is this a good plan -

Get home from work in 4 hours.

Make five litres of fresh SW do the bath with just the blue tang. What salinity ? The same as QT ?
How much of the water life product is used ? Hopefully instruction on the bottle.

Add carbon to the internal filter of QT.
I then sleep for maybe 7 hours then go to LFS get copper treatment.
Administer to QT over the course of 48 hours get the water to the right level using salifert test kit then will it just stay stable at that level ?
Keep this level for 30days then remove copper with carbon this is assumimg the fish make it through of course.

Yes, same SG as the QT.

Don't forget to remove the carbon before dosing copper. I would still test the Cu level every so often to ensure therapeutic range is being maintained.

Ok just hope my LFS has a suitable copper treatment.

My QT has pretty much the same SG as my DT 1.025 give or take.

Should I lower this ?

Don't lower it too quickly, but decreased SG & temp = more dissolved O2 in the water. And fish with parasites can use all the oxygen they can get.

So I did the myaxin bath and he seems a lot better today so I am going to wait until 24 hours of having the carbon in the QT has elapsed until commencing the copper treatment.

The treatment I got the instructions differ from your advice of getting the level to 0.3-0.5 concentration and keeping it there for 30 days.

I have also bought a salifert copper test kit.

Please can you or anyone confirm the directions again or do I just go with what it says on the bottle ?

I believe cuprazin is similar to chelated copper, so you would need a concentration of around 1.75-2. You would need an API test kit for that. Also dosage mentioned is to ramp up copper slowly, you would want to increase it faster over a period of 48 hours or so.

I have the salifert test kit now I think I should follow the instructions on the bottle.

All this seems more trouble than its worth at the moment.

Well, originally you said you would be using Cupramine which is ionic copper and has a therapeutic range of 0.35-0.5 mg/L or ppm. Salifert is a compatible test kit for that.

Cuprazin is a completely different animal which contains the following ingredients: Copper sulfate, Formaldehyde and Malachite green. Copper sulfate is comparable to what is in chelated copper (i.e. Coppersafe here in the states.) Therefore, the therapeutic range would be 1.5-2.0 mg/L or ppm for 30 days, and you would need a “total copper test kit” such as API’s to measure Cuprazin.

Sorry for any confusion.

I thought my LFS had Cupramine they never so got the only treatment they had.

I would have to order an API kit online which would take a couple of days to come so not sure what to do now ?

Would just following the instructions on the bottle of Cuprazin be ok ?

After bathing the blue tang in the myaxin bath today I see no white spots at all so maybe I have got a bit of time now so I will give the carbon a day and a half to remove the CP then I was thinking to just dose the Cuprazin according to the instructions on the product ?

If you advise I must get the test kit you refer to then I will have to wait until possibly Friday to commence the copper treatment ?

Copper is basically a toxin. At the range specified on the bottle or 1.5-2 it will be toxic to the parasites, higher than that and it might be toxic to fish. since you dont have the api test kit, i would reccomend doing 75% of what the bottle reccomends so you dont accidently overdose. Then when you recieve the api test kit you can administer copper according to that test kit. Anyways you need a couple of days to ramp up copper, so hopefully by that time the api test kit would have arrived.

You don't need the test kit to start, but since dosing instructions are not usually 100% accurate you'll want to test before adding more than the recommended amount. Which you'll probably need to do to reach the 1.5-2.0 ppm therapeutic range. This is the case whenever I dose Coppersafe.

So do I still need to keep the concentration 1.5-2.0 for 30 days ?

What I don't understand is how can this product be sold if the instructions aren't correct e.g. You need a certain brand of test kit to use it etc ?
They also state 10 day treatment
