What we’ve concluded it to be is a deep water tenuis. These are found “deeper” according to the divers. Comparing the growth pattern of branches and corallites etc. I’ve also tested with the “neighborly touch” with other typical tenuises and they do not fight.
Most acros seem to lose their battle with tenuises with a few exceptions of course.

Interesting, radials aren't in the rosette arrangement tenuis usually exhibit.

Eitherway, beautiful piece!

Are u looking to put a backup frag in my tank? I’m in the tri state area no need to ship

That statement won’t hurt sales these days... If that’s true then it will look like a normal tenuis in the new growth I would imagine. I like eymanns Id, looks spot on to me. I don’t think tenuis being found a little deeper than normal will change their structure that much but I am no expert.
Deepwater acros are just acros with smooth skin/spaced out polyps and a lot of people assume they are found in very deep areas from the nickname.

fore enchinata? Mean if your close to Indiana I'll be happy to help w the backup frag thing as well lol or buy a piece possibly ;););)

huh? Hmm, I think this hints me at something.

I have been told, even when texting friends, emails and what not, that I can come off as abrasive, even though thats not my intention at all!
well, sometimes Im a debater, but I dont mean be a unpleasant person.

Im trying to modify how I write/type, I think sometimes my style of discussion/writing can be misconstrued maybe? I think thats what you are getting at maybe? totally not my intention to be unsavory. I apologize if I ever come off that way

Ill continue to work on that.

cheers!
I just meant you're being so nice in your reply that it's like when a kid did something wrong before the parents find out lol

Im always nice, at least thats my intention, but I have been told my written/typed personality and word choices can come off mixed sometimes
Again, working on that.

l dont want to derail this thread.

What? No! @SeaDweller is a very knowledgeable, old school reefer with a great looking reef, he really helped make me feel welcome when I first started posting, both of us reminisced of the "oldschool" ways of reefkeeping, I hope Im still on his good side?

Whats going on here?

I want no part of it!

I like to give him a hard time any chance I get. He’s all of those things and then some.

You always sound like Mr. Expert to me. So you win. Whatever you say. You got it dude. Not like I don’t see this piece every day. Go figure.

This guy came to me in a dream from Malaysia mid last year. A dream shipment. Might be one of the best acros I’ve ever seen.

All I am doing is trying to have some conversation about what the coral might be. Did something I say rub you the wrong way or what?

You dont need a microscope to differentiate this from A. tenuis, the morphology simply isnt there.
and coral aggression is by no way a remotely reliable way to determine species.

A. striata and A. speciosa are the closest I have seen in morphology, but I dont have any letters in front of my name either.

Its a beautiful coral.... attitude....not so much.

I know some folks get annoyed when I get off topic so let me try this again. You haven't encountered subpar attitude until you've talked to @SeaDweller . I PM'd him "Hey, what's that rainbow colored deep water on page 3 of your thread? That thing looks incredible. I've never seen a piece like it and I'd like to get a frag." He replied with "Which rainbow colored frag? All of my pieces are rainbow colored so your description isn't helpful." Then I wrote "The only photograph on page 3 of your thread." He replied "Oh. That one. Yeah, I heard about your tank's phosphate issues from @Chaswood79 so I wouldn't even bother getting a piece if I were you. It won't look as nice in your tank."

That’s a dang lie. I would never violate the reefer confidentiality agreement.

Thank you for saying this. Very well put and respectful. Good call on the striata as well.
