I'm in the same boat...from watching the BRS videos they recently mentioned, buying tangs when they're small and selling/trading the lfs for another small one again when it starts to outgrow the tank.
I believe they suggest the smaller tangs like the bristletoth, tomini, kole yellow eye.
When I find the video I'll link it for ya.

I think it is BRS 52 weeks of reefing the 15 th week? Adding fish
