From what I've read you don't want to have long runs of horizontal piping.What about this? I switched the drains around, eliminated the wye. Maybe simpler? I didn't draw all the valves & unions in. Lazy.

Back flow depends on how far down your return nozzles are below the water line. If the return pump shuts off they could possibly create a siphon if they are pointing down.Please don't think I'm second guessing anyone here. I'm learning.

Safest way to run a 2 hole tank. Just make sure you secure the return, don't want it getting bumped and coming out off the tank.Have you thought about running a herbie setup?
You could use the two holes for drain and emergency drain; then run pvc from pump up behind the tank and over the edge with a u-tube design. Just a thought.
