Don't feel stupid! It is really a joke here now, but at one time the civil war was serious business. Quite literally.

Seriously Josh, if you are really interested, check out the PBS documentary by Ken Burns, called, "The Civil War." It is extremely long (like 10+ hours), but it tells the story from both sides on a very, very personal level. Some things were left out, like what Katrina mentioned (and I am definitely not going into that here), but I have the CD set and I plan to watch it again when I have time after I retire. Probably a few more times. It is a haunting piece of film making, IMHO anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion I will have to see if I can locate a copy. I'm sure 10 hours is not enough time to get into every facete of the war, I've watched more than enough WW1 and 2 documentaries and read a bunch and still discover new things here and there.

Quite an interesting history from before the beginning of the us navy and revolutionary war to present
Now the newest one is the first getting the HELIOS us navy laser weapon system

History is interesting. I know there are lots of passionate people tearing down monuments from the Civil War era, but imo, if you erase those, people forget. Do we really want to forget our mistakes or triumphs?
