Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

99% sure it's a purple ribbon. It says they aren't ok for nano tanks...oops
Is theres a chance they give off a toxin similar to a leather maybe? Its been a while since I read up on them. Dont think id worry too much about it but im no expert by any stretch.

It was the 36" height thing.

That and being in a lid, they are a LOT closer to the water than the 12-18" some people run their LEDs to get spread and even color blending(I'm talking to you Ecotech, cough cough). You should be fine with SPS.

Are you suggesting that LEDs need to be higher up to get even color blending? Since I live far away from any LFS I have nothing to compare lighting with other than reading about them. I was considering Ecotech. The price has me concerned though. But I want my Birdsnest and stylophora to do well in my deep tank. And I want my lights to be inside my hood. Above my glass. I do not want my fish to be jumping out. And I do not want to buy new lights all the time. I want a lot I know. I have been enjoying reading this thread. You all are having a great time. ;Happy

I recently just finally stocked the fish in my large tank and want to start decorating it with nice corals. Trying not to kill them all. ;Shy

Ecotec makes great lights and a lot of people use them to grow corals. I just do not like the color blending from them. I don't think it affects the corals, or at least doesn't hurt them, but being able to see individual red, green, blue and yellow shimmers in the tank is a little off putting for me. I hear the deflectors for the Radions help a lot with this but deadens the shimmer.

Not everyone likes them for their own reasons, like I have for radions, but I run Kessil LEDs because the color blend is perfect and the shimmer is unmatched in a LED fixture. They just won't put out 900 PAR like Radions. (900 par will kill your corals, it's not needed)

Also, yes... the higher you can mount a light the more flat and even the spread will be.

Imagine holding a flashlight 3" from a door and trying to see the whole thing. You may have some light reflected to the other parts but only one area will be bright. Now back up a foot and see how much more of the door is lit up.

Reef lights work the same way.

This is looking much better I think. No polyps at the store.

Awesome!

Love my purple gorg.

It looks like it’s starting to open up.

Lots of random flow if possible.

Sometimes mine closes up for a day or two for no reason?

Gotcha! I was constantly thinking my corals needed more light until recently. Killed a lot I am embarrassed to say. Now I start them down lower and MOVE them around when they start to not look good. They are just frags at this point. Do your Kessils overheat? My husband is leaning towards the new orbit marine LEDs. Since it is my tank though he is not pushing me though.

Thank you for the new insight. No sense buying more than I can use!
