Reel to Reel was awesome, if you had a good machine. Some of them were not cheap! 8 track sucked. I still have a functioning 8 track player in my 79 Corvette. Sounds like crap still. Hell, I remember 4 track stereo.

When I was in 5th grade my parents pitched in and helped me buy a new trumpet. I had to pitch in $500 (it was a lot back then!) and I had won a $500 gift certificate in a competition. My parents covered the rest. It's the trumpet I'll be playing in church tomorrow night, 38 years later.
